I reasonably DIY capable, but glass concerns me. We have been tidying up an 80 Series and used a body shop recommended by a friend to address rust in the window channel and re-seal the glass. The windshield now leaks worse than ever and I have been back 3 times. Today the tell a story of having used sealant per the FSM and water was flowing in th front corner area. Using a plastic pry tool, I can separate the molding from the glass with no resistance. There is no sealant in that area which makes me question the rest of the install.

Is there a recommended glass guy in the DC Metro (preferably Montgomery County, MD) area who knows how to do this? I am prepared to do it on my own, but it would be a first time experience.

Thanks,

Safe Lite sucks in my experience and are simply in-bed with all the automobile insurance company’s out there ..

They have a list of posted “ what we Don’t do and what they Do is not posted ..

They will Not handle any Glass they do not source on there end ..

I asked if it’s an older truck like GHOST and the rear cargo window ( that blew out when a load in the back area shifted ) was disc. / Nla by Toyota what was there process at that point …,?

The increasingly rude manager simply said they would make the glass happen on there end ….

Safe Lite is a Franchise based outfit …

I realized walking out the door , and what I took away was 99.9 % of there daily jobs are all Insurance Jobs on late model vehicles …..

That was not my 1st Safe Lite Rodeo , but it is was for sure my last ..,

Did you take pics of the windshield channel, post rust repair?
If you did, then I would send that to Mike and see what he thinks.

Thankfully I live really close to Mike @ Windshield City. Emailed him in Feb when my windshield cracked, and he called right back to talk on the phone. He can either source a OE gasket or you provide your own. He does a lot of work at the dealers, but does glass in his own shop a few times a week.

Cracked a windshield at the same time on my wife's X5. Getting that replaced distracted me. Then spent the last couple months prepping my M3 for a vintage car meet 5hrs away which concluded this past weekend. This post reminds me I need to circle back and give the cruiser some love.
