dash/stereo question

thuis is the second time this has happened ina different vehicle to me, so im guessingits something im not doing thats casuing this.

anyways, some punkass stole the cd player out of my 85 pickup a while ago and i just got around to finally putting a new deck in. i hooked up the constant power, switcehd power, ground and the 3 speakers. now when i try to turn onmy headlights, the headlights will comeon but the dash lightswont. the 15 amp fuse blows under the one labeled "tail" since im assuming my dashlights are on the tail lights circuit.
like i said this is the exact same thing that happened on the last vehiclei put a stereo in so i am opbviouslymissing something.
can anyone help?

This same thing happened to me in my Tacoma, it turned out I had pinched a wire behind the stereo, pull the stereo out and see if it blows still. Look for a pinched wire.

I would agree on the wiring. Recheck and recheck. You might have assumed a color goes with another when in reality it does not. Or, you might have an exposed wire from the break in..very real possibility considering theft.
