Took the 80 out tonight, haven't driven it in the dark in months (long summer days up here). Almost all the lights are out on the buttons for the cabin temp controls. Does each button have it's own bulb? How do you get to them? Pop buttons off or do I need to take the whole dash apart?

I believe it is a strip of lights. You might be able to SEARCH and find more information about how to repair. Some have repaired theirs.

I searched for a while, mostly stereo stuff that I found.

Have you considered an HIR bulb from Daniel Stern?

It'll be the next great mod -

FJ40crusher,

Yep, I also searched here and on SOR archives and I can't find any posts but I kinda remember that the bulbs on the A/C panel are some kind of strip. IIRC, there were 2 strips behind the dash.

Why don't you pull it and let us know what you find?

What ever came of this investigation? I'm being told that I need to fix this soon, right after I get the engine problem figured out, and the speakers put in. Is it a strip, bulbs, 38cent fix or should I sell an arm?

Funny you should ask. I just happened to have had my dash apart last weekend and I am very familar with the temp controls. Just pull the dash piece and the temp control unit will come out with it. There is a cover on the back of the temp controler and if you pull that cover off you will see three bulb sockets. I assume they twist out and a new bulb can be inserted.

On Friday I lost the "D" light on the dash . I knew it would go and figured no biggie ;p but in return I got a new one going to work this morning , the CEL
That teaches me to put premium fuel in it on Sunday

Todd,

Bang on the dash with the heel of your hand a couple of times. It's "fixed" my D-light twice in the past 3 years.

What's the CEL code?

that happened to me with the light around 4 and 5 on the tacho. i noticed the tach jumped a few rpm's but the engine didn't so i started tapping it like they do in the airplanes when they notice that it doesnt read right. ... it just blinked into existence.

I tried the dash trick but "its dead Jim"
It tossed a P0421 code and I dont know why as I just changed the o2s about 6 months ago but im going to look for a wire issue as it hiccupped at the same time as it turned the CEL light on :censor:

LED replacements?

Is anyone aware of whether or not an LED replacement is available for all the fussy little dash lights? Sure would be nice to only take the dash apart every 10-20 years, as opposed to every 3-5, to replace those annoying little buggers.

Or, am I just missing an easier way, as opposed to total dash disassembly syndrome?

I'll be smacking my dash around this eve to try to get the little D light to shine. If not my honey do over xmas just got an add on...along with the front O2 sensor....the HT back on the forty...and let see, the mini truck power steering conversion for the 40. and....
