Dash Lights Stay On When LX Is Off and Rear Defrost Is Left On

Like the title says, I turned off the LX tonight and the dash lights all stayed on even after the key was removed. Well, I guess it was just the indicator lights. But anyway. The headlights were not on. It took me a minute to realize that the rear defroster was on. When I turned that off, the dash lights went out. This is a repeatable phenomenon. Is this normal or do I have a gremlin living somewhere in my 80?

I should have asked earlier... would someone mind going out and seeing if their LC or LX does this, and reporting back?

My 91 LC does the same thing, I suspect the ignition switch since I get an occasional click of death from the starter too, despite a rebuild and complete regrounding. I don't use defrost here in Houston, so not in a rush to try a fix. Subscribed.

try another defog switch first. I've had defog switches burn out, and it's possible that the switch is feeding power back into the illumination circuit.

However,the power to the switch should be gone when the igntion is off... have to look at the EWD to check...

I think I remember threads like this one that led to wiring at the rear of the vehicle being the cause...
