Hi all!

I am new to this forum but have been a Land Cruiser owner(FJ40) since 1968. (Still have it but its been modified quite a bit). I need to have the timing belt changed in one of the other Toys in the fleet--2002 Double Cab. Bill's Toy Shop, I see, is now in its third generation as Dan's Toy Shop. I would appreciate any input as to opinions on whether the quality and reliability of the shop remains high and whether you would have work done there?

Thanks!!

Welcome!
Can't help with the Toy shop thing, I've never actually taken my junk to any Toyota specialty place. Most of those places don't consider an 80 series a real cruiser anyway. Where is the shop anyway?

Probably won't mean much coming from someone from the Northeast, but for what it's worth, when I picked up my 60 in Tucson, Bill went over and made it road worthy to drive back home. I made it back without a single problem and the truck is running strong!

Here's to Bill!

I used Bill back in the day he was the only toyota heavy truck master mech. in Town and the only guy I've met who could look in a cruiser and tell you everything you would ever want to know about anything and what it did and how to remove it via toyota manual (without ever looking in one). He retierd and sold the shop to Dan, Bill was working on cruisers up at his place , but he has moved to CO. Sorry this isn't much help on Dan's more just a shout out to Bill. When he left he did recomend two shops in town one was Nippon (I know a couple of cruiser heads go there) and Simply Japanese was the other one. Both of these shops seem really nice and don't give you any run around. someone on the board may have stories to share of these shops.

Just an added note. I talked to a guy who recently took his 40 there to have them take a look at the charcoal canister and he said they seemed pretty clueless on what he was asking them to look at. He didn't know it had be sold and was orginally taking it so Bill could look at it.

I say Yay for Dan's (but I may be biased)

:bounce:
Hello! I just "googled" our shop and saw this posting. Just to clarify, we will work on Landcruisers, however, we are picky. Dan says we will work on 80s or 100s. So, if you got one of those, bring it on down. If not, you can definitely take it to Primarily Japanese at 110 E. Drachman. They will work on other Cruisers.

If you have any other Toyota's (Scion and Lexus, too) bring 'em. Not a whole lot has changed since Bill owned it.

Thank you!

Hey Angela! Welcome to the board! Good to know that you will work on 80's.
Check in here regularly because the "does anyone know a good mechanic" question gets popped often.

Hi all my name is Evan,

I will be taking my new 94 LC in to Dan's toy shop with in the next couple of weeks. This is my new baby and I'm going to have it completly looked over. I spent about 15-20 minutes talking to Angela on the phone yesterday. She was very freindly and helpful seemed honest as well.

I have some leaks that need to get fixed. I think these are gasget leaks and are going to be kind of hard to get to. So I expect some expence. I will also be doing a lot of mods to the truck in the expedition theme an not so much in the rock crawling area.

As I live in an apartment in Tucson and dont have more than a basic set of tools I will be having most everything installed buy a shop.

I'm going to give Dan's toy shop the first chance at tuning up my baby as it this was the place recomended buy the previous owner.

I will keep the Fourm posted with my experiance at Dan's Toy shop.

Till then happy off-roading.

Hi all!

I initiated this post way back in September. My daughter did decide to go with Dan's Toy Shop to have her 90,000 mile service done with the timing belt replacement. The work was done promptly(less than a day) and the price was reasonable.

We didn't post back immediately. We were waiting to see how things went--leaks, noises, etc. It has now been several months and all seems to be great.

She is now taking her truck in to him for regular maintenance. She really likes the friendly folks and the attention that she gets!

HTH

Just an update on Dan's toy shop. I took my 80 in to have the PHH swapped with the blue silicon version. They did a great job. Both Dan and Anglia are very nice. This place is a great alternative to the dealership.
