OK

Looking at the distributor in Post #10.

The nipple is broke off. If the nipple was on there, there is no way you would be able to move the dizzy since it will hit the oil filter. Should I go to a small filter?

What is the advantage of a vacuum advance/retard dizzy? I have an old Mallory dual point dist that I can put a Petronix in but it does not have any vacuum ports.

I'll post some pics up when my other computer quits acting like a brat.

Yeah, that one is a few teeth off I think...

So what if I use this distributor (Mallory) and put a petronix in it?

After making some new hard fuel lines for it and routing them correctly I tried to fire it up.

More fuel was pumping out the bottom of the fuel pump than through the fuel pump. I replace the fuel pump and filter. The PO had the fuel line connected to the wrong line going to the tank. It it fired right up. I tweaked the carb and set the timing and then tweeked the carb a little more. I dump in some Sea Foam in the CC as well as the fuel tank.

I drove it around the neighborhood and BS with some of the neighbors and then came back and changed the oil and adjsuted the valves.

Did I mention that this does not have any exhaust on it other than the exhaust manifold?

Wow is that the OEM carb fan? If so it shouldnt have any problems vaporlocking when you make the trip around the sun!

Yep, sure is.

All the emmision stuff has to be on these thing so it will pass the visual inspection. That includes the OEM fan.

My headlights dim when that thing kicks on.

That's neat looking fan. I have not seen one of those until now.

And this my friend is why Bob has a 5.0 motor in him.

figuring out all the inns and outs of the stock 84 smog crap is not something I wanted to do..

LOL!

I think a FJ60 is easier than one of these. They are mostly all the same.

On the FJ40's it seems that there is a different emmision system every year from 1974 - 1978 and it depends on if it is a California system or a federal system since the systems are different.

WAPITA

No wonder FJ40Jim lives so for from here.

BTW, I would not use the Mallory. I might have a dizzy sitting around somewhere. I know I have a stock small cap fully electronic dizzy that you would need some sort of computer for (stock mini's have a nice one) to make function tho..

Good thing they do not know you have the wrong exhaust manifold on there... ;)

Glad you got it running Dan.

Any disadvantages?

The only disadvantage to having the diaphragm so close to the oil filter is that you might not get the amount of advance you want. My first solution was to put a dent in the filter with a BFH!

That shouldn't happen...

At least it kicks on!

The '77 was a sort of partially electronic ignition. Later years were more fully electronic I think. A lot of people do a 60-Series dizzy upgrade, but then you have to change out that inspection cover thingie on the block...

(they don't care too much about that one...)

It is probably sitting right next to the fuel pump for BOB. :grinpimp:

lol

Still have not found that thing...

Well the mainfod is wrong but I found the correct exhaust sustem. LOL!

WAPITA for such a nonfunctional system.

That looks like the 1979 and later 40 series exhaust header pipe....

79 and 80 were the small cap fully electronic dizzys.. No need for a different side cover.
