Nathan and I, along with a group of Nathan’s friends, went out to KY to ride some trails March 6-9. We ran mostly difficult rated trails and we found them to be more difficult than the ONX ratings, probably due to the recent devastating floods that the area experienced. Trails of note were: KAT Hard 3, Sinking Creek, KAT Hard 11, Old Fincastle. The deep mud and slick conditions slowed us down, so we did not cover as much ground as we had planned. Still, it’s a beautiful area. Lots of trails and tons of fun to explore.

These trails were my intro to offroading. Old Fincastle Rd. is/was the only significant challenge to my stock height FJ80. All "easy" trails have escape paths around obstacles. My stock running boards did receive some abuse...
Extremely fun set of trails!!

We did some research prior to this trip, and thought most of the "hard trails" would be relatively easy. Fincastle obstacle was cake compared to several sections of the trails we ran. Comparisons of Youtube videos from even a year ago confirm these trails are not what they were prior to the floods. Many have been so washed out that they look nothing like the videos from a few months ago. We cut trees and pulled cable to get through several areas. The flooding in this area occurred less than a month ago, and hasn't really had time to dry out. Several of the little towns we passed through on this route were largely submerged during the February 15th flood, which claimed 22 lives.

I did these trails last July during the Kentucky Trail Ride event.
I really like the area.
The pizza joint at the rock climbing school wasn’t pretty good.

Miguel's is unfortunately not great.. but Toads over off of 11 in behind 4 Guys RV park is really good, Thatcher's BBQ and breakfast at Daniel Boone Coffee also recommended.

We did the KTTR event last July as well. Didn't find anything quite as deep as y'all did, but Sand Lick Rd got sporty in a couple spots. We're looking forward to going back this summer. Red River Rockhouse was a good spot to eat, a few miles south of Miguels. The camp sites at Callie's are pretty nice too.
