Iam haveing a little trouble finding some info on the toyota dana 60 hybrid axle build. Got the dana 60 looking for a way to make it six lug. read the article on the tech forum on the hybrid but no real info. Some said I could maybe use wagoneer 44 30 spline axles. Just trying to keep costs down until final build. thanks for any help you could offer.:)

Welcome.

Purchase six lug hubs from HERE and then get the caliper brackets from them also...

You cannot use Dana 44 spindles and hubs on a 60 knuckle.

Cost?

To have an axle that you do not question it getting you home is not something that is cheap, period.

What size tires are you looking at running?

Why are 30 spline Longs not going to work in a Toyota housing for you?

I can get the hubs as well, they will be about the same price. If the other option falls through, or if you would just like to order from us shoot me an email.

Thanks

Thanks for the info guys its the back axle Iam having trouble with well not me the fab man. He is just trying to get everything built and rolling so I can finish the frame off rebuild. Were trying to find a six lug stock axle that will slide into a narrowed 30 spline 60 rear so if I do ever brake one all I have to do is go to mr. Parts house and get a new one. Like I say I read some were a wagoneer 44 rear 30 spline axle will work but for the life of me I cant relocate the tech article. Thank you again for any help.

i think we are all wondering why you would put in a Dana 60 then just go with 30 spline shafts..
if you are going with a dana 60 i would think you would upgrade to 35 spline..

Toyota makes 30 spline shafts that hold up Great to many abusing them in Minitrucks and Cruisers alike..

They are also cheep and EZ to source parts for:)

:)

Ditto, we jsut got thru converting a 30 splined rear D 60 to 35, and after holding them 30 splines, I would guess they are no stronger than stock LC, in fact we sold them ($150) to a local axle builder cause they are in demand for stockers that break them........

Well my issues are this I am finally getting to spend a little money on the cruiser and trying to just get every thing narrowed and rolling so I can finish the tear down. If after the body work, wiring, trany rebuild and the other thousands of dollars I will probably be spending Iam to have some more money I will probably go 35 spline. Dont get me wrong Iam not at all unhappy with the stock stuff just wanting to tear down and rebuild once if possible and with the 205 I need the centered houseing. I appreciate your opinions because they are quite on Just not sure how much the 35 spline stuff is the fab man would like to go that way but says it is quite expensive.

35 splining rear....costs.

Locker? same money, just got to buy it to fit now....................

Axle's 150 each

Boring spindles larger to clear the 35's 150

Not quite sure I would trust a "fab man" trying to discourage this mod.....

Depends what you want?

You can do a 60 semi float or 60 full float

60 full float :
is mostly what is talked about above, 6 lug hubs,
30 spline shafts stock
35 spline 1.5 shaft (optional) with spindle boring on NONE 60hd rears, and
> stock d70 35 spline shafts will fit if matched length.

PROBLEM shortest stock dana 60 rear is 65" WMS

I assume since you did not mention what front axle you are using but asked to stay with the 6 lug you are keeping stock front axle? so the 55" front and 65" rear would look interesting to say the least.

OR

Semi float :

Centered crusier housing

You can go wagoneer shafts in a 60 housing, OR IMO a toyota mini axles in the 60 housing would be a MUCH better axle and with the availablity of stronger aftermarket shafts, toyota parts, disc brake parts,etc.... makes it easier.

Well I will be putting a dana 44 in front and probably using the same six lug disks for the back thats why the interest in the six lug axles. The fab man isnt trying to steer me away from the 35 spliners he actually is pushing for them but again its mostly a project at this point with the majority of use as a DD with the weekend trips to the mountains with the wife and kids. So its probably not going to get near the abuse that some of yours get. I just want to make sure that I can get everyone home at the end of the day. How does the toyota axle swap work? Is it hard or pretty straight forward and mildly difficult, what parts are required ?

What dana 44? IF full width then i understand but run the 8 lug hubs and get a full width rear axle of choice and just be 8 lug all the way around.

IF NOT full width then the d44 front isnt worth your time nor effort to put in, SAVE time and money and build the rear to match the stock LC front axle.

OR IF some some wierd reason you wish to use a D44 front like out of a wagoneer, swap 8 lug hubs on it and run a slightly wider rear CNC 14b or bit wider then that a 65" d60

IMO d44 front is not worth your time, full width maybe till a d60 can be sourced. but other then that just more work for no gains really.
