I have to tell the funny part of this story first. I have started my first FJ40 build and just completed the stock axles recently. I had a set of chevy 60's that I was toying with the idea of going full-width but felt satisfied with the stockers and rebuilt them with mini outers etc, selling the 60's to help fund the other part of the projects. The 60 was pretty rusted anyway and I got $1100 bucks out of them. The other day my girlfriend confesses that she thinks the cruiser looks tall and skinny (funny) and then pointed out a fullwidth heep down the block saying that it looked more like an offroad vehicle. Talk about shattered :crybaby: That's like her telling me........well you get the idea. :censor: I even had a nightmare about it. I have been trying to "convince" her that it's not so bad, but then she brought up safety and that it might tip over. OK OK! I just picked up another 60 front for $800 that's in way better shape than the one I had before and now the cruiser's going fullwidth.....maybe. Since I already did a SR, just welded on brand new hangers and stuff from ruffstuff, would you cut down the axle 4.5" to fit the stock spring location or just start completely over and outboard? I want to go full but also want to drive my rig and don't want a bunch of heat from the po po. Any ideas? I figure the cost will be relatively the same. Opinions Wanted!

Get a Cab and chassis 14 bolt for the rear..

Do you mean from a FF 14 from a dually? I am leaning toward the cut-down, just hate to cut a good 60  but have been reading and looking at a lot of full-width pics and it seems just a little wide. The cut seems like a pretty good compromise between wide and streetable. thanx for the opinion.

not sure on the springpad width on a cruiser, but on my mini, I cut the longside down 2.5 inches and it lines up perfect. I would keep the axle as wide as I could, mine is perfect at 67 F&R, but even cut down 4-5 inches it will be far more stable than what you had, considering all the added unsprung weight.

outboard spring hangers and go full width, blue torch has the kits for yjs and they work for the fj40's as well. I run 42" with my d60 arb and a 14 bolt detroit. excellent combo. I didn't think a few extra:cool: inches made that much difference, but wow it does.
