I'm looking to put Dana 60 axles under my fj60 to accomadate my 6bt cummins conversion and found a pair of axles that will work my question is this axle is the older bearing style knuckles are the king pin style that much more desirable? I've found these hard to find unless you're willing to pay top dollar

So you are asking if the older kingpin style is more desireable than the newer balljoint style???

Well, yes, sort of. but the Ball joint front end will more likely than not be fine.

newer axles typically are unit bearings, which can be a good thing (mo mainteneance) and a bad thing (cannot rebuild/repack and are expensive)

I would run a BJ axle if it was cheap..

I'm not sure if this axle would be considered "newer style" it's in an 89'Dodge.I guess I thought the newer stlye were the king pin type and more sought after but for what reason I don't know,but the axle I'm looking at is Ball joint stlye best I can tell .The price is right .I'm going to pick up the whole truck I think.I'm getting somewhat tired of searching for parts.I don't see any disadvantage to running that axle ,but I wasn't sure thought I'd get some opinions

Kingpin = older

Balljoint = newer..

I picked up an older KP chevy axle for $400.

Deals are out there but you have to be patient.

If the 89 Dodge is cheap then go to it.

Just make sure that it is a 60..

Dodge Dana 60 axles were of the kingpin style until 1994, and ball joint thereafter. IIRC, 87-88 were D61. You should check the BOM number to make absolutely sure of what you have.

Make sure it's not a D44 closed knuckle.

I seriously doubt that a close knuckle anything was available in a 89 Dodge ;)

But if it is, run away :D

89 dodge can be external Lockouts, but was the transition yr. THIS is important as hubs are somewhat harder to find, and LOCKOUTS are very hard to find. 35 spline stuff is near impossible without custom/aftermarket.

3.07 D61 are suppose to all be stamped as such, are available up to 90 91 as far as i remember, or is a optional till then. 91 after have OD trans.

Well I ended up getting the whole truck last night I would have liked to have a little more time to research the front axle ,but it was a buy it or lose out on it to someone else deal.I bought it right . The truck has a cummins 6bt in it 727 trans 205 transfercase dana 60 rear with a huge spring pack the front diff is a 60 I believe non kingpin .Looks like some sort of auto locking hub .How can I find out exactly what I have as far as the front diff goes?

Might be able to read the BOM numbers and try to find out the ratio. THe other option is the ask on a dodge web site like www.turbodieselregister.com (must be a member to post). PM me the info and I can post a question for you. Need to know the year of the truck.

O.K. I'll look for that number tonight I'm assuming it's located somewhere on the pig also get the ratio I'm betting 4:10.The title says 89' and model M26 what ever that means

The BOM is on the long-side tube.
