Hello Guys,
As some of you might know that i am in the process of replacing the cylinder head on my 2LTE equipped LJ78 prado. please refer to this thread for the writeup.
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=110969

I am waiting for the machine shop to get the head back to me. In the mean time i would like to know some suggestions or tips you guys might want to share. We can put these two threads in the How-to section.

1. the Cam shaft has a nut pattern that can be used to tighten the cam pulley bolt. What do i use to tighten the crank pulley bolt?

2. Do i just wet the head bolts with motor oil before tightning?

3. On which bolts should i use antiseize?
exhaust/intake manifold,
injector threads,
glow plug threads,
turbo-2-exhaust manifold,
brackets to cylinder head,
thermostat housing to cylinder head,
EGR system nuts/bolts.

4. Which bolts/nuts should i use thread-lock on?

Any tips for setting the cylinder head gasket and the head onto the block correctly?

thank you,
ALI.

Hi,
thanks guys for the suggestions.
I have the toyota factory manual for the 2LT and 3L engine. RM169E that i got off the internet.
It just tells the user to remove the pulleys. It does not list any tools etc.
Also it doesnot list any material to apply to bolts, except little oil on the head bolts.

I guess i will have to make a contraption to stop the crankshaft from moving.

There are two ways of getting the pulley bolts off. 1st is an air gun, which works in a way as to not turn the pulley while it pulls the bolts, it's a miracle tool. If you do not have one, then go to Canadian Tire and get a rubber-strap wrench. It is a plastic - handle with a 1 inch rubber strap running through it, forming a loop at one end. You put the loop around the pulley and the friction of the rubber strap holds it in place while you crack the bolts. Not easy...you may curse frequently...you may pray for an air gun...

Hi Robin,

I printed the clearences chart from the manual and gave it to the machine shop and looks like they did a good job. They also swapped the injector seals from the kit i gave them.
There is a pattern on the camshaft where a wrench fits, so installing the cam gear is not a biggie.
I am just worried ktorquing the crankshaft. looks like i will have to make a contraption of my own with holes to hold it.

Any suggestions specifically about putting the cylinder back on the block? Did you use any sealent with the gasket?

thanks.
Ali

No sealant on the head gasket! Just make sure the gasket is in place, then gently set the head on there, on the aligning pins. Get the head bolts in there finger tight, then torque it down according to the pattern in the manual. Make sure you follow the pattern specified and the torques specified.
