Hi There

About a year ago i had my CV rubber boots replaced eoth OEM.
Came with its specific grease.

While greasing the truck noticed the cable were missing on both sides.
Took it to my mechanic we out plastic zip ties on There.

- Is this a common issues ?

- Should i use metal zip instead ?

- What grease to use ?

Not sure how the bands can go missing since they are a one piece design (no split). Assuming they were installed to begin with, they would have to be cut to remove them from an installed CV axle.

If the CV still has the grease, you can use the replacement bands from pfran (or McMaster-Carr). They are split so you can install without removing CV axle.

CV clamp kit (6 piece)

Is it common that OEM Bands ( tie) go loose or slide out ?

If not tightened correctly I imagine they could loosen up or possibly even slide off the boot. The boot has a ridge on it, so I the band would most likely stay in place but allow grease to escape and dirt to enter. If the bands are missing all together, I don't see how that can happen unless they were cut off or not installed to begin with. As far as I know the OEM bands are all a one piece design with a crimp. I believe some aftermarket designs are a split boot/band that allow you to reboot without removing the axle.
