For future reference if someone says they will sell you a Toyota OEM axle for $100 it isn't a Toyota shaft. I think the dealers pay $400+ for the OEM shaft.

The ones they cal reman also don't seem to be OEM reman units but reman or new Chinese shafts that are far inferior. But they cost 1/4 the price.

We don't even give our customers the cheep option because they are junk.

Also if it was just a boot tear and the axle wasn't clicking than a reboot and regrease almost always solves the problem. An OEM boot kit costs almost a hundred bucks so a new shaft for the same sounds like a good deal but certainly is not.

The one they finally installed was a new NAPA axle, but the total price including a wheel stud was $510. No worries, I got a quote from CDan on an OEM axle and it will be shipped and installed at their cost. Lesson learned...

Glad ya got it worked out. Post up when everything is fixed.

I don't even recommend non-OEM axles for trail spares. If you are swapping an axle you might as well only do it once.

43430-60040 $354.85 MUD price ($473.13 list) for 98-02
Boot kits are $30.30 each side.

And, I 100% agree with not using the aftermarket or supposedly "factory" reman axles. First off Toyota does not reman the LC axles for a reason. And, secondly the new aftermarket ones are junk. We have installed them in cars (Camrys especially) at customers request and they click and pop straight out of the box. If you can't get a Toyota FACTORY reman axle (part number looks like this 43410-XXXXX-84) get a brand new Toyota one.

^ Thanks for the info Sam. I had already talked with CDan and have one en route. Should be fixed next week sometime.

Fixed. New Toyota half shaft assembly installed, no extra charges. Lesson learned, do it yourself, or take to Slee or Toyota...

Thanks CDan
