Hey All

Got my new axles today and the dust shield/boot (I think) on one of them got mangled during shipping, everything else looks perfectly fine.

Haven’t had one of these apart in years.

It’s only a dust boot and not a sealing surface of any kind right? I’m pretty dang sure I can easily get this back into good enough shape, but only going to do that if it’s a non sealing surface.

Work schedule and heavyiness of parts make it a royal pain to try to send them back for other units.

Input?
Thanks

looks like you might have got the ones I returned to them...

I think that maybe you can carefully bend these back and it doesn't need to be perfect. I returned mine because I thought I could get them to send me undamaged CVs. After I returned mine, they said that they didn't think they could ship them w/o some damage. One of mine wasn't too bad and I now wish I had kept it and just bent it back but the other was dented in multiple places and I'm not sure I'd want to do that. So I just had them refund my money.

Terrible packaging.

Not a sealing surface and bending it back is just fine.

Doesn't excuse Toyota. Bad form and looks like a systemic problem.

Yes. These were from Olathe. Which is where I’ve bought ALL my OEM parts from and they’ve all been perfectly packaged.

Well Except for these, loose in box, minimal stuffing to take up dead space. Odd because the control arms and such were packed so good, you could launch them off a bridge and not get damaged.

Probably going to send them some pics and a WTF email and maybe get a discount coupon or something.

Something like this I’d usually buy locally to save big shipping fees, but the price difference was substantial.

Roger. Thanks. Will morph it back into place.

This is the only part I’ve ordered so far that’s had subpar packaging and oddly, probably the most delicate. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Kinda funny. I live in Olathe but ordered these from Serra (just due to the 25% off sale at the time). I'm going to go buy them at Olathe Toyota but I'll be able to open the box while at parts counter and inspec what I'm about to pay for. I suspect that the ones they have on the shelf are already dented. If slightly damaged, I'll still buy them but try to haggle some additional discount.

Ha! Small world. That’s funny!

Olathe ALWAYS seems to be a bit cheaper than anywhere else, and ships most stuff very fast.

This has been my only disappointment out of about a dozen orders

I just went over there to pick up a couple parts I had ordered and talked to the about CVs and the damaged dust covers. The guy I talked to said it happens all the time and they just replace the covers if they are messed up when they receive them. I ordered one we will so how it goes.

You could ask them to send you a new dust cover and they might do it for free. You might be able to find a dealer or Indy who could replace the cover if you didn’t want to do it yourself. Just a bit of a PITA.

Awesome. Thanks. Have a contact name there? I’ll give them a ring

I’m not really on a first name basis with those guys. You might tell them you have a buddy in Olathe that belongs to Tornado Alley LC club. Not sure that will do much but the counter guy that is usually there does seem to recognize me and knows I’m Tornado Alley and gives me the club discount without me asking. Club discount is just the internet price.

Roger that. Thank you
