Working on digging up how my VW Golf R worked ... it was awesome. Easy to slide in and out. The only alteration I’ll make this time is allowing the leather magnetic cover to clip over the iPad to keep heat from getting it.

That’s nice for sure

The Joying unit looks pretty sweet. Wonder how reliable and durable it is. The fact that it's a fairly no-name Chinese product at its price makes me VERY leery.

Honestly if I could just have a stable tablet mount that would hold it in front of my head unit in my 62 I'd go that route, but I do NOT want to drill holes in the dash pad, given that I'll have a brand new OEM Toyota pad coming in a couple weeks.

I'm very curious to see what @jackhossross comes up with, especially if it allows for removal of the tablet.
I have had mine for close to a year and have been having a weird issue where Carplay randomly disconnects (wired carplay). Joying has actually been really helpful, started with a firmware upgrade to see if that was the issue but ultimately I have a new unit (metal box only) that will be delivered tomorrow to replace mine. I believe that it is a heat related issue with the MCU as it only seems to happen when the unit gets hot during the day. Been fine for hours and hours driving around at night and whatnot but outside of that, once temps started to warm up I began having issues. They did say they want me to ship back my old unit so they can investigate as they have never heard/seen such an issue before with their units. They did recently upgrade the units (now the 9853 chipset) so I am getting a unit with that. Really hoping that it is a fluke thing.

As for the abilities of the system, it has been great. I have a Gaia GPS account, which I downloaded on to the unit and in April this year took BeBe out on a club run to the Petroglyphs and had Gaia track the trip. Unit did great and I had my phone hooked up via Carplay the entire time playing music. Believe that THIS is the unit that I will be receiving. Carplay has always been fast and responsive, the ZLink app loads pretty quickly (less than 10s) and connection is quick, maybe a couple seconds, once plugged in. Never had issues the few times I used maps while in carplay or anything else. The unit itself is pretty snappy, first boot after a long time without it turning on is usually a good 30s or so, but after that, system comes right up upon power being turned on then will load the last application within a few seconds. Using the onboard mic (and external mic) was ok, nothing great but it worked which is just fine by me.

Once I get the new unit I will update on how things are going.

Any video in for backup cameras?

Any video in for backup cameras?
Yes the new one does... Old has video in/out but never used those (no reason too). Actually I believe that Joying sells their own backup came to attach to it.

I had video to my iPad in my golf R via a WiFi connection - it worked pretty well but took me awhile to get the settings sorted to pull data from 4G.

Believe that the Joying have a slot in the base unit for a Sim card. I know I remember going through the settings and seeing something in there about 4G connection and connecting through an attached phone.

So I received my replacement headunit (metal box as they called it) and installed on Wednesday this week. Everything was exact same except that this one is now running the Intel 9853 chipset/mcu. System is definitely a lot snappier and has worked great so far. Carplay, which was original issue and was randomly disconnecting when unit would get hot, has been flawless through the ZLink app. The version that is on this unit of ZLink is different, or at least appears different, still connects super quick and whatnot but has been working flawlessly for the short trips I have taken. Noticed that this one now has two antenna sticking out the back for wireless, but still not 5ghz connection, only 2.4ghz.

I did look over the unit and this one DOES NOT have a sim card slot or memory expansion slot, but some do, just depends on model (assuming that double-din versions probably do. Anyways, Joying's Support has been awesome even working on different time zones and some language barrier. I asked them if they wanted the old unit back to investigate and they said thank you but no, too expensive to ship back to china. They also refunded me $50 of the $70 for the new HU replacement, so that was awesome and somewhat unexpected.

I know these things are not for everyone, and the look doesn't really fit the old Land Cruisers, but I like the bit of tech. When this truck goes and is replaced with a 100 series, I will likely upgrade with another Joying unit (hopefully they have one with dedicated connections). Would really love to see one with physical buttons and rotary knob(s) but that is a personal preference as touch screens can be finicky, and especially for me for some reason (don't have enough electrostatic charge in my fingers or something).

I actually came across this while browsing Amazon lately. Looks like it'd be a great way to go if you're willing to spend the money. Which, if you're gonna spend the money on a tablet, you may as well spend it up front and get a good known head unit. Only caveat I see with this is there are some complaints about Google Maps being washed out in daylight as if the screen's too bright. Hopefully that'd be solved with a future firmware update.

Edit: or if you don't want to spend so much and are okay with a double DIN sized screen, this is also an attractive option.

I have that in a sedan. Good HU for Android Auto, Nav, BT/handsfree etc. I considered putting one in the 62 but it just doesn't seem to be as good a fit for me. Probably just do a BT amp and use the Galaxy tablet on a Ram mount that we use for Gaia and streaming when needed.

There is another smaller profile floating display Alpine in the ILX family too. ILX-F259.

If you install in the top half of the double DIN, leave the bottom display bolts out and attach only the upper ones. Put a filler cubby under the HU single DIN chassis.

You can then flip up the bottom of the screen about 45 deg to access the cubby. Doesn't effect usability of the screen at all.

I was wondering if the screen would protrude enough to clear the extra inch or so of dash pad that would be in the way, too. I just got a new OEM dash pad so once it goes in there will be ZERO modifcations to that. No drilling or anything. Nada.

I have this in my 60 and absolutely love it. Having auxiliary controls on it helps minimize the amount of switches i have throughout the cab. I can upload a few pictures if anyone would like to see it installed in a 60.

The Alpine deck or a tablet?

Damn that looks sweet. What's your impression of the screen quality? I've read a couple complains on Amazon of Google Maps looking washed out or too bright during the day, which gives me pause when considering going this route.
