Hi guys, I've been thinking on adding a turbo onto my NA 13B.

I got an OEM turbo from my 1HDT (CT26). The idea is to fabricate the turbo manifold from zero but I am uncertain if this turbo is a good fit.
What do you guys think?
Another option is a turbo out of a ZD30 (which I have to purchase) that I think will spool faster???

The 13B-T came with a CT26, as did the 14B-T and 15B-T (but not 15B-FT). So yes, they are matched.

Nice engine bay! What is the insulation on the fitewall?

Alright. I think there are several versions of the CT26 so I was uncertain if using one out of a 1HDT would work.

It it just insulation used for interior roofs on houses. Works pretty well to be honest, keeps the firewall cold and isolate the sound of the motor a little bit

The ct26 will work, but it’s too big and will be laggy for a 3b. Toyota used the same ct26 on the 12ht as the 13bt…it’s too big for the 13bt…and 3b. There are better options but I suppose it’s all about budget.

Better turbos are the Holset HE221 and MHI TD04HL-19T. The CT26 is old and slow.

Note that CT26s are different for various OEM applications. Like different turbine housings with different A/R. 1HDT one is probably NOT what you want for a smaller displacement engine. Find one from a 13BT if that is what you're putting it on.

But as said, you'll be much happier with a modern and proper sized turbo anyhow. I hear TD04L-13T is nice on 3B/13B. You can get them off Subaru WRX engines (those guys upgrade).

The 13bt ct26 is the same as the 12ht one, too big and slow/laggy.

The he221 on mine made a huge difference on mine.

Ah, okay. So maybe the turbine housing is the same for 12ht/13bt. I'm pretty certain 1hdt turbine housing is larger though....

The turbine housing on a 1HD-T, (and I think 1HD-FT), 14B-T and 15B-T have '58020' cast in (interestingly, 58xxx denotes a B Engine component) which makes sense as the 14B-T was launched a year before the 1HD. The 13B-T would be -58010 and was the same, it seems as the 12H-T. I was not aware that there was a difference in the performance of the two turbochargers, but it makes sense.

There are about 3 different CT26 (single entry) turbine housing sizes. But they're still housing a paddle wheel so it's only a minor difference.

There is a twin scroll turbine housing I believe from a smaller petrol engine.

MR2??

Not sure if it is interchangeable with the 1hd-t CHRA.
Way too long since I was looking at this stuff.

The twin scroll housing was not suitable for anything I was interested in, so I didn't store the details in my brain.

Search up the Mellett turbo catalogue for detailed information.

I've linked it many times in old threads, a search should find it
