I took a picture of the welded nut on my exhaust downpipe. :

I will be replacing the CT 20 turbo in the 1990 LJ78 as soon as the new Turbo arrives.

The previous owner welded the nut to it's stud where the exhaust couples to the turbine outlet elbow. I suspect that the stud was cross threaded or stripped, so he welded it together stay put.

I will have to grind that stud and nut off to get it apart.

Should I be sourcing a new turbine outlet elbow or will I be able to repair that stud? I don't want to be dicking around too much with the elbow. I need the truck running that week. I was thinking of drilling out the welded stud and replacing it with a nut and bolt.

Does anyone know where I could get a new/used elbow or should I attempt repair?

There are two studs and one bolt on that system... That looks like the bolt, and not the stud. Remove the heat shield from the top and it will become apparent.

Thanks John. I took another look at it with a mirror and you are correct, it is the nut and bolt thankfully. That should make things easier.

Right now I have a 2.5" exhaust piped to the original flex. During the turbo install, I want to put in a new piece of 2.5" flex. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a new dump pipe assembly that fits the CT20 and converts into a 2.5"diameter?

I will be putting in a pyrometer at the same time for good measure as well.
