X's heat rating?

:meh: Sorry but I don't know diddly about heat ratings :meh:

I've been getting my chile from the same family in Hatch for the last twenty years or so. Five years ago they added the category "XXX" to their standard "Hot" Sandias & "Medium" Big Jims and I tried a sack of it and was shocked at how hot it was. You can't eat it plain because it will burn your lips, and peeling it without gloves causes my hands to burn for two days, but it is great for soups, stews, and potz-o-beans. I reckon it is about as hot as the orange Habanero peppers that I used to use when I cooked my beans. Now I use a couple of XXX chiles in a pot and it is plenty hot.

My sisters in law & I use it for all of our soups, stews & casseroles so I usually get two sacks per year and another three sacks of regular "Hot" for everyday eating. :)

We found some leftover bags at Basha's today, ended up with about 8lbs after packed into smaller freezer bags. Nice job at scalding the roof of my mouth during sampling.:slap:

Chili relleno? Such a food tease....

This little guy had a run in with the windshield of our LX after picking it up in CO. I think it happened on the 87 a little North of Fountain Hills. I know we hit one other as well. I have no idea how it ended up on the cowl because I know it didn't hit the wiper. Maybe did a 360 after it hit the windshield? So odd. Cute little bugger though sitting there all dead. Roughly a little smaller than an egg, maybe the size of a golf ball if it was oval?

Saw this in Chat and thought Id post it here - pretty cool

This critter came into my workshop last night

So eight days later another rattlesnake came into my workshop

This one was full grown - 35 inches long with eight rattles.

I was leaving the shop for the night and as I opened the door I heard a rapid slithering at my feet.

It was too dark to see where the snake was so I took a leap of faith and jumped over it. By the time I got a flashlight it had gone into the shop and was heading for the pile of steel in the corner. Luckily I got to it before it hid under the steel or it would have been a long night getting it out!

You should hang a sign by the door "Welcome to the viper room" :hillbilly:

I can't imagine the hassle if it would've wedged into the pile of steel

Snake Farm – it just sounds nasty
Snake Farm – well it pretty much is
Snake Farm – it's a reptile house
Snake Farm – Uuuggghhhhh......

"Snake Farm" by Ray Wylie Hubbard

We have a mutant gene locally that produces one every so often with a stump without rattles and it is becoming more common to encounter ones who don't rattle.
