Hi ALL :flipoff2:

I've just been lurking about under my 80, checking diff levels, Xfer box, etc.
I've noticed where the exhaust pipe crosses above the rear cross member, (just in front of the rear axle). The the pipe on the underside is flattened, to about 1/2 its diameter. Surely this aint right. I know its the closest point to the body, but there a factory fitted heatsheild there. Can anyone confirm or otherwise, that is is wrong.
I can only think that PO, or a shop battered it to increase clearence ?

Rob ???

same question asked before.
IIRC there is a thread with photos etc and comments that this is factory.

It's a stock option :D. Came that way.

I recently replaced my exhaust with a new catback system. My pipe was crushed as you described, but I thought it was because the hangers rusted off and I hung the truck up a few times. It looked as if the pipe was riding on the rear crossmember for a while, it was ugly.

Normal

Normal, and not a restriction as some have surmised. It's got the same volume as the round sections, just a different shape.
