Yeah I got it... But then how is anyone supposed to know its on an 80 chassis? :)

The whole point is that you do the frame swap in a way that the layman can't tell. Only the people who know 60s will look under and say "holy s*** dude, you've got an 80 frame under there!".

Sleeper my friend, sleeper :D Make sure it's a nice, relatively quiet exhaust too!

I'm missing the part in this thread where the OP said, "tell me how to build my cruiser.." :D

Any one have a really nice bone stock white FJ62 ?

HELL.... I THINK HE SHOULD JUST buy a HDJ81 and slap a 60 front conversion on it....

Not looking to pioneer with this build. Looking to have a well rounded truck that I can find any info to build or fix on Ih8mud.

Oh come on you could get anything you need to fix it at a GM dealership! :) okay I'm done...

OK GUYS that's enough I'd like to keep this in the tech section!

Is it done yet? :worms:

Damn, this thread will be 20 pages before he can start posting about the build! Let's get the plans together Matt, 6.0, 80 frame, 60 body, but what transmission will you be using? are you going to make it a street rig with low suspension? or a lift?

Either 4L80e/4L65e/4L60e, or 6L80e.

I'd like do the 6-speed auto but it will likely be what comes with the motor.

The 5vz is one of the most reliable motors toyota ever made. Plenty of them nowadays have 500k. The trd supercharger for those motors were always a poor design from trd and ran very hot. Still, with the poor supercharger design and a stock charger pulley guys are seeing 400k with normal use. As far as melting a tps sensor, thats very unusual. I just sold one truck with 230k and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. My "new" 199k 5vz runs fantastic as well.

I am not arguing or debating the reliability of the 5VZ. It was a great motor while I had it and I didn't go easy on it. Mine ran awesome after 60k of being S/C and having gone to Panama and back twice. However, the heat sink issues is actually a well known problem on the 5VZ when S/C and is also well documented. That is how I figured out what the issues was on my truck, because it happens to other people and there was lot's of info out there on this. Once I put a throttle body spacer on there the issues was no more.

You're missing my point, not that's it's entirely relevant or important.

It's not an "FJ" without an F engine variant, be it F, 2F, 3F, 3FE.

It's not an "FZJ" without a 1FZ engine.

All chassis are "J", followed by the series numeral denotation.

So, with an LS engine, at the very least, it'd be an "LSJ-XX", filling in the "XX" with whatever floats your Theseus-ian boat.

Yup you are right but the thing is the "Z" came with the option for locked axles. So a lot of people, myself included say FZJ to show the 80 is of the vintage that had lockers.

Cheers

Hey that's the face I make every time I see another Chebby being thrown into a cruiser...

Wait a minute, were you not just considering doing this?

Cheers

you don't get to build a half 60 half 80 without the tech thread being at least half riddled with chat

Matt go to our club site. There is a guy by the name of Lee doing a 6.0 4l65 in an 80. I've helped him with the rear axle some. It's gonna be a cool ride fo sho.

Better yet, here's the link.
