I don't know if it's random or not but my cruiser craps out on me ever so often. It's something with the alternator I'm assuming, it just happened tonight when the truck had been set at idle for 20 minutes or longer, and then all the lights start coming on and my deck turns off then turns back on when I rev it to try and keep it running. It's happened usually every week or so, (I usually drive around city once a week).

It's a 91' FJ80 143k miles. I'm guessing the brushes need to be cleaned?

Has the EFI relay wiring been upgraded yet?

I check my alternator with a digital tester. With the engine running, I get 13.8 or so volts at the battery. With the engine off I get 12 volts. If you get that or something really close, like within .1 or .2 volts, you should be OK.

The Vacuum line off the distributor will also cause symptoms like that.

or a loose battery terminal?

Battery terminal is alright, I need to check on the relay and the distributor
