cruiser newbie HELP!

Help!
I just got a 1986 diesel with the 2h motor with a turbo from a 300zx
It was running fine for the first few weeks, and then i started to get blue smoke, I have been told that the whole engine had been rebuilt 75k ago, the truck has not lost power since the smoke started. I am looking for a good landcruiser mechanic in the toronto area anybody have any ideas? As well is there any trouble shooting i can do to figure it out?
thanks !

blue smoke is oil, have you noticed any oil consumption? Hopfully it is just black smoke and seening it in people headlights makes it look blue,

a little white puff is normal at start up a little black is normal at high rpm's.

re blue smoke

yes the whole engine has been rebuilt, the water pump was not replaced and the thermostat is pooched.. there is good presure in the cooling system.would a bunk water pump cause blue smoke?

Turbo seals going bad, maybe??

mabey it is turbo seals

It may be time to take the turbo off. I would have it inspected to see if it was leaking oil. Check the oil supply and return lines for coking. If it was seriolsy cloged with some oil entering the turbo then the berrings and seals will soon fail. Have it checked.

If the engine overheats to seizing point it will blow blue smoke. But the water pump will not cause it to blow blue smoke. If you overheat the diesels particularly to the point of boiling them this can cause the metal in the rings to loose tension but is more likely to cause piston or head damage or failure. Messing about with a faulty thermostat is serious business change it out asap, I take it this is what "pooched" means. Most failures in diesels here in Oz are caused by overheating, thermostats, split radiators and crook water pumps and belts. And check out the high pressure crossover as I described before. It really pays to pull the radiator out every 12 months and reverse flush it, takes less than an hour. It will last so much longer [ good insurance in the tropics here} for sure.

thanks!

Wicked input!!

I am starting with all my filters and my mechanic is checking the water pump and the turbo seals, hopefully there are no big problems..
