Looking FRIGGIN AWESOME!

Got a couple bed tubes in place. I used a holesaw in the back wall of the cab so I could push the tube through it and reach the cage tubing.

Made a panel for the back of the cab out of recycled aluminum sheet. Shizzy is historical.

I cant wait to start driving it. Hopefully some topless snow runs this winter.

Some of the newer d30s use the same 297 joint as the d44 on the axle shafts. Older ones were a 260 I believe. Some of the newer cheropuke d30 have a cv shaft even.

A d30 with big joints still has a playschool diff and conduit for axletubes.

As for driveshaft ujoints, there are lots of options for both the 30 or 44.

all i am getting at is if your D44 has those little crappy u-joints (in the axle, not the D-shaft) then i wouldn't waste time with it

I just thought you were a noob and didnt have much axle knowledge. My bad.

What should I waste my time with? Im a complete noob and didnt really think my axle choice out.

A toyota (I have plenty of those and have had tons)? So it can bend the housing when I beat it in the dunes? So it can s*** hubs when I goose it, so it can kill steering studs when I jump it? So the V8 can eat pinions and poop ring gears?

A D60? so I can add a hole bunch of weight up front where I dont want it? So I can spend a bunch of money on it just to get rid of axleshafts the same size as the d44? So I can run huge heavy brakes? run expensive gears and lockers? 60 stuff is twice the price of toyota and d44 stuff.

A d44? it has a real axletube. it has a bulletproof locking hub design (internal spline). It is a match to the rear I have. I can easily install a pair of RCV birfs in it to make it fel like a toy axle when I turn. Its alot lighter then a D60. Im using a hipinion which is stronger than a lopinion.

Im running 36 inch IROKS that are 95 percent tread. Never been ran on the road, 8 trail runs only
.
The rear axle is a ford 9 inch with 31 spline chromo Yukon axles 4.88s on a spool.

The front axle is a HP D44 with 4.88s all new hubs, bearings, brakes and a sweet ARB locker.

Did I mention I bought the axles and tires for $1400?

So have I made a bad axle choice? :meh:

I paid almost that just for the fj80 elocker in my wheeler.

Got some more done on the bed today. Hope to get it all filled in with bracing tomorrow. Would also like to start getting alum panels on and springs hung too.

just my preference man, i'll take a trussed yota with longs and drive flanges all day long over a built D44....but it sounds like you got a good deal on it........carry on, it's lookin' good!

Got a few more tubes in for some bracing. Still need to brace the fender bars and start on paneling and getting the keg ready for fuel. Ill be adding a sump and pickup/fittings on it for fuel.

Like the build, not so much the sarcasm.:flipoff2:

I might have missed it, but what are you doing in the rear? A short bed, flatbed, etc?

I guess conversing kindly for 75 pages and never building anything could be better for my social skills, but Im a dirty rude assshole that likes to build stuff and this is a build thread, not a hold my hand in the shop session. I got a hug if ya need it big feller.

 been in the same position and now I just don't do build threads.

Killer deal on the axles and tires, would've been stupid to pass. :grinpimp:

Exactly. You get it.

I like to do build threads, but unless pointing out an obvious mistake I made, I am not looking for tech help. Its a build thread, not a "I would do it this way" thread.

I am pretty sure I have the build handled, I just wanted to share it with folks cuz its not a normal resto or truggy build.

Its different. Its not like the typical "web recipe".

If folks dont like what Im cookin, NO SOUP FOR YOU!
