Izat Summer Lake in the background of the last pic?

I really want to get back out that way.

I'm further East in the Warner Valley. That is Crump Lake which is south of Hart Lake right up against the Hart Mt Escarpment near Plush.

First Photo below is north of Crump Lake looking south. The photo of Crump lake without the Cruiser in it was taken from the drive way of the Glass House looking west/southwest towards Crump.

The third photo is about 1/3 of the way around the western edge of Crump looking south toward Adel Oregon.

In the first set of photos the photo of the Cruiser with the XR650L hooked on was taken at Hart Mt National Antelope Refuge. I usually camp there and do desert loops out of camp.

I was out there looking for a Hot SPring that is on CRump lakes western edge. Didn't find it...found out it is easier to get to from Adel, Oregon.

The road I was on was a two track in good condition until the point these photos were taken, then it was just a trail in the high grass. This is a mapped BLM road but would be unpassable in any kind of wet weather..basically driving trough a Marsh but it is dry from about July until this time of year. I just squeezed in before the fall rains...

Running a stock lift?

OME Medium (front) Heavy (rear) I have "A" springs on both sides of the rear to level it out..the "A" for drivers and "B" for passenger spring bull s*** is just that..bull s***...don't fall for it. get either two A's or two B's...

Stock rims with BFG33X10.5/15 .switching to 16" rims when these wear out.

Tires perform outstandingly. I seldom get into any mud long stretches of mud, The occasional mud hole they just walk through.. for desert running they are great as they are in snow.

Looks great! Tech bit... what kind of hitch do you have there? Other wise, great looking setup, any good bike trails? Spent my H school years in Eastern Or., Love the high desert

I always enjoy the beautiful photos of your adventures, and of course your rig. Thanks!

Very nice looking cruiser, and great photos. I recently replaced my carb with a TBI setup specifically for taking the cruiser from here in Oregon City to the high desert. I didn't want to hassle with rejetting or advancing timing or any of that nonsense on the way up, only to have to do it again on the way back down.

Your pics are really making me regret not getting over to the high desert this year. Here are some pics from the trip my dad and I took last year.

The receiver is from U-Haul 3500# 2" reciever. If you need the part number I've got it. Had to remove the rear tow hook to mount it and I think I drilled two new holes also. It is quite stout.

The Ball Mount is a 6" Drop 750# tongue weight, 7500# Gross weight

It lowers the ball so that most trailers tow level, (works perfect with the moto trailer) used it for years with a 87 GMC 3/4 ton for horse trailers.

If your wondering, yes, it did drag several times...I failed to pull it off before going out...every time it hit I said to my self..."you need to get out and take that thing off before it really hangs up" didn't ever take it off...coulda been trouble....

As for trails... really is more unimproved two track than single track. There are the OHV parks that have single track and hundreds of miles of Mt Bike trails. I don't do OHV trails and of course only bike the Mt Bike trails (duh!)...the two track can be really tuff.. The Cruiser can handle most all of it if it is dry..however for making time the Dual Purpose bike rules.

Check out this link: http://www.oohva.org/ I've done sections of several of these routes in the Cruiser and on the bike, All two track outstanding country...

My rig is bone stock, I did by-pass the EGR (plugged the one vacuum hose from the top of the EGR)

just chugging around it does fine right up to 8k feet, no acceleration but in 2 or 4 low it just gets it done.

Here in Bend at 3500-4200 ft it does okay no hot rod particularly with the 33s and no re-gearing...
I drove it to Seattle last early summer. AT sea level it was a frigging HOT ROD...compared to driving it up here. Was really fun to actually feel some G's when taking off!

Nice pictures, yep it's a great area to tool around in. I get out there at least twice a year..of course 10 minutes from the house I'm either on BLM land or the Deschutes National Forest...so I'm never far from some nice driving..

Are you running a little rich normally? I wouldn't think you should gain significant power by dropping elevation if your carb is tuned right. If your air/fuel ratio is tuned for 4000 +/- feet you should be running really lean at sea level if anything.

ya know..yes, I think it is running rich now-that-you-mention-it, definitely rich at start up which I accredited to leak down of fuel...I don't know if it's rich enough to mess with though. Starts, runs, gets expected MPG (bad) As mentioned does fine at higher altitudes...I'll check into what I got working..but I really don't want to get into messing with the carb on this thing...already going round and round with the XRL's carb after doing some mods to the intake and adding a aftermarket exhaust...really getting to be a pita...

At sea level it just seemed peppier...When i bought it from the original owner it was tuned for 2500 feet and highly maintained. I do not do my carb work, have a old certified Toyota mechanic that does the major tunes. It will be discussed..thanks for the question...

Cool, thats exactly what I was after, When i pull trailer, I often end up w/ to much angle, and thus drag the rear end. Again, great pics, have you ever explored the old opal mines out east of Bend? Dont remember whta road or mtn range they are in, but worth the trip.

I think those mines are over in the Ochoco Mts, east of Prineville. I know there are some gold mines and mercury mines out there. I have not taken the Cruiser or Moto out there but have ridden horse back around some of the mines. There are other mines and thus lots of unimproved roads, out toward Mitchell and Canyon City. Senica (SP) is getting to be a mecca for off roaders. That Oregon Backcountry route cuts through there and a couple of bed and breakfast type "lodges" are catering to Dual Purpose adventure tourers and the wheeling crowd...it's all on-the-list..there is sooo much country over here...

Hi Desert--good to hear about your trip: Can I ask a few questions..? I bought an HJ60 earlier this year and working on the process of setting it up as an expo rig for Oregon back county trips (near Oregon City currently)--
-Any tips on rig set-up for those areas?
-How about access-mapping: where do you get rough maps with those old roads--Oregon BLM or ?
-I won't be towing anything so setting up the rig to be 'self sufficient' as I tend to explore solo--most people don't like to go as far or as crazy of places that I enjoy.

Glad you got out and enjoyed before the seasons changed--Oregon mud is just around the corner!
