One thing my wife and I hate about the cruiser is the lack of cruise control. Anyone know if there is an add-on available for an fj62? I have a dash mounted hand throttle but it doesn't do the trick at freeway speeds.

I don't know if 62's came with Cruise or not, but I can say that I swapped a stock setup onto my 89 4Runner, and it wasn't too bad.... But you need the clutch switch, brake switch, cruise computer, cruise actuator and I had to do a good bit of wiring...

Clutch Switch?? On an automatic? What if we could modify my hand throttle for a greater range of use so that I could just use it to set a cruising speed? Would using something dash mounted like that be somehow unsafe(since it would all be manually operated)??

anything is only as save as the operator.

basically any cruise system is just holding a throttle position.

there is no reason you cant use a hand throttle for cruise.

I had to deal with the clutch switch on mine... Dash mounted might be a little less safe than a system that releases when you hit the brakes...

I say mod the hand throttle if you can and see how it reacts to hitting the brakes without letting it off...

Just dont forget to take it off when your fan belt blows...

Hand throttle I don't think will give your the full throttle you might need without modifying, it also won't maintain speed on grades. Might be a bummer in a panic situation when you forget about it. I would say try to source one off a fully loaded rig.. It seems like a lot of 62s are getting parted out.

Does anyone know if the 80's with the 3FE had cruise control? If so, since the motors were the same that out to work right? I'll start digging. i've also got to put together everything I need for Aric to do the tune-up on my rig. I'm gonna pick up a VC gasket so we can check the adjustment on those as well.

Pretty sure the 91-97 80 series had CC. But in regards to the CC specifics on the 3fe you may wan to post up in the tech 80 section.... or 60 sect

the cruise system is really pretty basic. it only is using a couple inputs. you should be able to swap from about any toyota .
