Tomorrow I will be doing Crown King with my brother in law and a couple of his work asscociates....I will be in my 100, he has a Long armed lifted Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I believe his buddies will be in TJ's.

Meeting at 8am where Castle Hot Spring road ends. Right where you turn left to get on the dirt road....if you don't know where that is...post up and we could meet somewhere around 99th ave (Lake Pleasant Pkway) and Happy Valley....

If the washes are really running very strong and it does not look safe....we can look for alternative trails in the area...

I might be interested, the determining factor will be if I can get my 2yo daughter up early enough, and handle her by myself for the day. :D Is CHS Road the paved road in from Carefree Hwy, and the intersection you speak of where it turns to dirt?

Although most of the 'trail' had been graded to superhighway standards, it might be interesting wet, not to mention the lack of dust makes it more appealing. I'm always ready to pack some fudge back from Crown King! :D

Bottom line- I can't say I'll be there for sure, so don't wait if you don't see me at 8.

you are right....castle hot springs is the road that you turn onto from carefree hwy...

hope you can make it....

Doesn't look like I will- the daughter has friends sleeping over, so she'll not only get no sleep, but if I try to wake her up and toss her in the truck at 7 AM she'll freak. Thanks for the invite though.

Does your 100 have an unfinished 4x4 labs bumper? I saw it parked at the restaurant up on the hill around 4:00PM. I was there with my 80 and my buddy had his Cherokee.

yeah that was my 100...I saw your 80 (the green one) up there. Did you go up the back way?

I will post a couple of pics today from the trail...much better with the rain..more mud..better water crossings and no DUST...

Here is what I did for the last 2 miles or so.....I had to get pulled last time in the snow in my 40 so I did not think twice about it....

This guy had passed us earlier in the day...the rocky section at the end was too much and his drivers side front ball joint broke..he had no way to get his rig off the trail so a Rhino pulled him a little way..

When I took over one wheel was just hanging there. After about three more big rocks he had both front wheels facing outward...I was dragging it on its frame and he had no steering...pretty weird noises but my 7 year old son got a kick out of pulling a vehicle over rocks, logs, etc....hope this link works to a little video we got...turn up your volume to really hear the carnage...

no idea what the VW was doing on the trail? He even said it was his first time taking it out:rolleyes:

I am really surprised it made it that far.......

LOL, that looked effortless. :D

Ouch! That's gonna leave a (several) mark...

Yes, that was my Green one. We did come up the back way. It was a perfect day for it. Not too soupy and like you said the lack of dust was great.

We saw that VW when we came into town, it was causing a traffic back up with all the people taking camera-phone shots.

At the last river crossing before you begin to climb we found a father and son who were hiking up the trail because their 2 wheel drive CJ got a flat and they had no spare. Their hike would have been about 6 miles and 2500' elevation. We gave them a ride, I certainly wouldn't want to hike that nearing night time.

custom, one-off, pre-production prototype....sorry Phil you cannot get one of these....I am pretty sure I have the only one..

yeah, still no finished bumper...still have not received the finished product...major issues with laser cutting..last I heard the last one did go together correctly at their shop but I have not confirmed that yet....my goal is finished bumper by MOAB 08
