Niagra falls is no longer on the route.

I've typed up a rough itinerary and will post it when i get a chance.

I also bought a pretty nice off-road style trailer the other day. Saving now for a Roof Top Tent.

Thanks for the suggestions/offers

As i get closer i will certainly take some of you up on the offers. So I'm assuming the $30-40 i doesn't include fuel right?

Also, i've been warned that if i want to spend a week of so in colorado doing some of the passes, trying to schedule it so i'm in CO towards mid/late summer or else i'll hit the muddy season....comments?

Roadtrip West: Any camping suggestions? Montana?

Yes, the $30-$40 includes fuel... That budget does not include hotel's though... I have never stayed in a hotel on a road trip. Always camping.

Hmm, $40 gets me a 1/2 tank of fuel, so... 115 miles. Good if you're spending a lot of time hiking/sightseeing, bad if you want to get to the next county, much less state. :steer:

A hotel every week or so is nice for the hygiene factor...

Well for next summers 2 and a half month road trip there will be approximately 5000 miles driven. That would roughly cost about $1300 dollars in gas for the whole trip, that's $650 each. I factor in food and other miscellaneous stuff and it comes to about 3k per person for the whole trip. That would be 6k for the fiance and I to make a 2 and a half month road trip through CA, NV, UT, CO, ID, and OR. Those are the calculations for 17mpg and 17 gallons at every fill up. Divide that 3k by 75(days) and you get $40 each per day.

Yes they are nice. But you can camp at a site with showers for much less.

You forgot about your trip back home. You calculation on mileage seems one way.

Fuel prices are dropping down to below $3.00 per gallon, even in CA.

You should be able to budget and all three of you eat, and fuel up for $40 per day. Granola and Roman noodles can go a long way. Fast food will depleat your funds quickly.

You driving your 80 series?

Couple of pictures:

Ghost town in CO...... worth the drive to look around

The ghost town is St Elmo. Lots of history and good trails in the area (it's near Buena Vista and Salida). I've been going up there for about 30 years now. My grandparents bought a cabin there and left it to me and my cousin. :D

As for places to visit, I'd definately include Glacier NP. Cool area!

His trip cannot be done in 5,000 miles.

I drove my FJ60 from Central California to South Haven MI and back and it was 4,800 miles in 2007.

I drove my Tow Rig from Central California to South East Iowa and back and it was 4,600 miles in 2008.

Both times I was going 1/2 way across the US and back.
