Tossing this out in case anyone has a suggestion. Through the good graces of this forum I found a Con Ferr jerry can holder and a blitz style bracket to mount a jerry can off of the spare tire wheel. Matching the set up on my 78 blue FJ for my new project, a red 78 FJ. Pictures of both attached. Understand there is a concern about filled can weight stressing hinges but do not run off road with the can attached.

For the blue FJ, as seen in the photo, everything matched up. For the red spare mount this is crooked (and without the hinges bent or stressed). Before I consider welding a revised bracket to adapt the con ferr thought I would toss this out to see if anyone has an idea or if its operator error on my part. The hole alignment on the con ferr is fixed. Might be manufacture variation for this to align crooked.

Thanks

Thanks. Are you saying the con ferr bracket was a different version for 1978? Appreciate you eye on the history.

If you look at the mounting section of the Con Ferr carrier on the blue one compare to the red it should be easy to see they are different. The early lugs up to the 77 model were 2-6-10 o'clock. The newer style are more like 2:30-6:30-10:30. Early Con Ferr on a later tub carrier will rotate clockwise.

Got it. FJ’s are in two different cities right now is a reason I was not able to compare the mounts other than the limited photos. They will be together soon.
