Creative alternative to locking gas door lock? (1 Viewer)

I added a gas door to my 71 fj40... Now it will have a door with a keyed entry. I would like to just have some sort of push button replace the keyed lock. Has anyone out there replaced the lock mechanism with something else?

look into some kind of electromagnet. it will run your battery, though.
Another possibility is a GM-style trunk lock, the one in my '91 Olds is vacuum driven, and pops open with a push of the button, if the engine's on.

Honestly, though, I'd recommend keeping the lock, it's reliable, simple, and foolproof, the more equipment you add to your rig, the more chances you have of something fail.

Or you can look through the junk yard for the numerous cars and trucks that have a cable pull to operate the gas door.

Push Button Knobs & Handles
L-5100n item number or there are other cabinet knobs similar that may work try looking for parts that go into boats
