This is my first winch, a Warn XD9000i. I bought it used so I don't know its history. I had it stored for about 2 years. When I got it out of storage, I noticed a crack in the motor housing. The line spools out and motors in smoothly. I don't see any signs of impact or trauma. I'd like to not be completely OCD about this and tear it apart, unless the consensus is that's the right thing to do. Would it be stupid to stuff some glass wool in and JB weld it? What do you guys think?

Could you guarantee that nothing would get into the motor if you used JB weld? Not for nothing, I'd replace the housing because I'd be thinking "I hope no water got in there with that last heavy rain storm. I wonder if it will work next time I need it?"

I just brought my m12000 in for the same style crack, and the shop said they would have to replace the cap without question. If water gets through the crack, its very bad news.

Warn would not sell just the cap, but the shop I went to is an authorized warn dealer and repair shop, and the guy in the shop keeps all of the parts he can from reman jobs he does.

He sold me a used cap in good condition for $12.
