Hi All. Definitely not trying to start an oil thread, but wanted some thoughts on when to get my first oil change done, since the CPO delivery was at an odd mileage relative to service schedule.

-oil changed and tires rotated at 18k
-car delivered to me at 18k.

I'm obviously not going to change at 20k with it done at 18k, but should i pay to have it done once before my 30k service, or go the full 12k since its synthetic oil? I'm thinking maybe 25k, and then get back on the Lexus schedule at the 30k oil change from then on. Do you feel the extra oil change will be a waste of $$? (Full disclosure... My closest dealer is 90 mins away, and I'm not doing a DIY job)... Thanks in advance

Are you talking about a Lexus LX570?

I am guessing that you purchased from a dealer. Is this correct? If so, they typically will change the oil before a resale. With that said, if you want to be on the exact schedule as outline in the OM, I would just wait until the next scheduled interval, unless you are doing some hard towing or real dirty work. If I remember correctly, on my 2010 LX, the interval is 7K miles between changes. If your is the same, then have it changed at 21K and then every 7K, as per the schedule. I would not stretch it out to the 30K mark, especially if you are still on the OEM warranty.

Yes. Oil was changed at CPO inspection at 18k. It is under CPO warranty. No towing or heavy work done with it. Just not sure if an extra oil change at 24k-25k makes sense or if I should just stretch it to 30k, which is a 12k interval in order to get back on schedule.

If your interval is 10K between oil changes, doing it at 12K will not hurt anything. Just make sure that it will not affect your warranty.

If it were me, I'd probably get it done at 28K miles, although I'm sure my dealer would suggest an oils change every 5K miles to make more money. There's no reason to change oil frequently on a car that isn't working hard - when you run on fully synthetic. But I've noticed that in this country (the US) people have a "thing" about frequent oil changes. The oil companies have conditioned consumers well!
