I have the twin turbo v8 diesel, the vdj200.. I recall reading that the total oil capacity of the engine is about 9 or 9.2 l of oil.. however everytime I change the oil I only put in about 8 to 8.5 liters and it's full... what I notice though is the oil is immediately stained with "dirty oil" when I check the oil level... how to I change the oil:
1. Open oil filler cap and remove lipstick
2. Remove body under cover for access to the filter. Remove small panel to access sump drain plug.
3. Remove center bolt of filter housing and insert plastic item to remove initial oil and then remove filter housing..
4. Remove drain plug.. allow all oil to drain.
5. Refit new filter gaskets seal rings.... fill with oil.... check for leaks....
That's it.. is there a step I am missing to completely drain the oil?? Please advice... thank you

I can't speak to the correct volume of a 4.5L diesel, but I will say having black oil immediately after a change is standard for a diesel even when you get "all" of it out. Just the volume left in the bottom of the pan, sitting in the voids in the head, the portion in the oil cooler, turbo, oil galleys.. The soot suspended in all of that is enough to stain new oil.

I also only put in 8 to 8.25 liters of oil every oil change in my VDJ200. Be careful when having it done and always check the oil after an oil change. The dealership overfilled my dad’s VDJ200 (probably put in the entire 9th bottle) and had to go back to have the excess oil drained.
