Wondering if anyone has been up to Coyote Flats area recently, above bishop? Was considering going up there soon and called the ranger office and they claimed it is impassable right now due to snowmelt. The lady on the phone was nice but I think she was a senior volunteer. I have not been up there yet so unfamiliar with the water flow aspects. From videos I have seen there are only a few crossings that are minimal usually.

man, that would be epic to go there this weekend.
the creek is probably ripping thru there.

so did you get up there?

I was up there yesterday. It's wide open, no issues at all. I came in from the Bishop side.

Was thinking of exiting from the Big Pine side but did not. There have been several 'recoveries' from that side in the last month and it is pretty torn up and we didn't have enough time for a trail repair of the road in that area.

any info on a map or data on how to exit through the big pine side? I was under the impression it was basically an in / out from bishop type of trail?

There are a couple of spots that require very careful navigating as it is off camber. The trail slopes to the downhill side and once you are off you will not be able to get back on without help from a winch and other vehicles. There is video of the trail on youtube. Type in, coyote flats bishop, and check them out. There is one by our club (ES4WC) from a few years back. Good luck.

A good map to get that shows the trail out the Big Pine side is the Forest Service free CTUC map: Inyo National Forest ((North) and Bishop Area BLM.

Basically get to the 'flats' and continue to follow the road southerly over towards Sugarloaf Mnt. Yesterday our Club installed a 'MOST DIFFICULT' warning sign where it starts to get sketchy. You can't miss the sign nor the sketchy part.

Even in its present condition it's still doable, but you will want a good spotter that you trust.
