An unknown misguided individual decided to stand on the Cowl Vent Panel of my 94.
Cowl Panel is pushed in (dented) at the passenger side.
Damage is cosmetic but annoyingly noticeable ... and I am the obsessive original owner ... you know the rest.
So, I'm thinking about swapping out the damaged panel for a brand new one as they are still available OEM.
(Part #55781-60030)

My question is, do I run the risk of damaging the rubber windshield molding when I remove and replace the cowl vent panel? Do I need to apply any sealant or glue to the rubber groove where the vent panel fits into the groove at the windshield? Assuming I should use new rubber at the hood side (duct cover seal part #55383-60010) on the new vent panel while I'm doing the job? (Windshield and all rubber parts involved are original). What OEM adhesive is used to attach this rubber to the Cowl Panel?

My research here on Mud seems to point to a rather easy installation... Remove wipers and remove six screws holding cowl vent panel and thats that.
No need to mess with the hood, fenders, windshield or rubber windshield molding?
Just want to make sure I'm not missing something and then wind up with a bigger problem than I have now.

Any guidance appreciated

There shouldn't be any sealant on the cowl cover if the windshield was installed properly. The cowl cover just kind of slips under the gasket under the windshield. The rubber at the hood side is held on with small plastic clips IIRC (I think it's mounted to the cowl itself, not the cover, so it likely won't even be disturbed.) No sealant or glue required there either.

Your research on the install sounds correct to me. Pretty simple and straightforward.

Good luck!

Mine came out & went back in with no drama, just those bolts on the firewall.

Only way to get the decayed foliage that drops thru that plastic grid in the slots, esp cedar tree drops.

This is the ticket:

These JIS screwdrivers fit so well, they almost turn the screws by themselves!

Seriously, when I opened the box and saw this screwdriver, I knew exactly what it was designed for. I really hate single use tools, but this one is worth its weight. It takes five minutes to remove the panel, and no skinned knuckles or scratched paint.

Thanks to all for the excellent info.
New cowl vent panel just arrived. (Amazing this stuff is still available from Toyota).
Malleus, thanks for the info on that JIS small screwdriver.
Do you have a part number for it?

Does removing this panel give you access to the wiper linkage or do you have to go deeper?

I removed mine when I got the truck to clean out decades of gunk and clean the drains. It was easy to do.

Yes, part number for the little driver.

Unfortnately, I have no idea. It was a gift.

I think I can fix this obvious oversight :hmm:

So your gunna buy a couple of gross of those stubby Phillips screwdrivers at Harbor Freight, ingrave them with the W E logo, and powder coat them PINK? :worms:

Oooor I’m gonna finally do something with the couple hundred JIS Vessel #1,2&3 bits I’ve had sitting on my shelf and then press them into an aluminum knob handle that was anodized and THEN laser etch the Wits’ End logo onto :flipoff2:

Edit: and maybe do a red version with TEQ logo :hmm:

Vessel Megadora 920 P225 JIS snubby will work for me.
Thanks guys.

As I'm catching up on deferred maintenance on the 80, I've noticed slight dents on the same panel the OP stated. I'm assuming the panel available comes primed only? So with small irregularities they may be able to be repaired, at least I'm hoping.

I'll add it to the "to do" list to at least remove it and do some thorough cleaning.

BTW, I have something similar to this, should do the job.
