Fellow HDC members,

Lets have another Cowboy / Cowgirl breakfast in the bush Saturday September 27th. This is the 4th Saturday in September, so this event will NOT replace our normal breakfast meeting.

Like previous years, we have decided to do this breakfast at a really nice camp spot just south of Cuba off of US 550. Jeff Boggs and I found this spot a four years or so ago and have returned several times. This spot (35.86163, -106.93470) is about a 1 - 1.25 hour drive from NM-528 and US-550. 95% of the drive is paved and the last few miles are unimproved dirt road. You will find more information about how to find the spot below.

Cars can make this one, but only camping trailers with major clearance, like Ali's Kimber style trailer or Frank's Smitty style, can make the one aggressive "dip" that goes through a wash. HDC members will be camping Friday and Saturday (maybe) nights. Note that prior years, very few camped on Saturday night.

Tips on finding the location: If you follow these turns, you may get to Rock Bowl Beach without issue. We will monitor 146.400. There is limited/no cell phone at the beach. This year, I will also have Starlink and should be able to receive phone calls, text and emails.

This was once a BEACH. Sand is at the beach!
  • 1 - Start at US 550 & CR 11 (35.84460, -106.96637)
  • 2 - Head to the end of the semi-improved road (NM - CR 11 to BLM Dirt (35.85991, -106.95545))
  • 3 - Cross the wash at this spot. You are headed towards RBB (35.85750, -106.93764)
  • 4 - find your way to this waypoint and turn east/right into the Rock Bowl Beach Campsite (35.86066, -106.93597)
  • Enjoy!
Let me know if somebody would like to volunteered to lead a moderate trail run on Saturday after breakfast.

NEW THIS YEAR - Northern Portion of NMBDR
This year, I will be changing up things a bit. I will be meeting south of Grants NM on Thursday night, September 25th. We will camp at a pre-defined spot and the proceed on Friday to make our way to the Rock Bowl Beach camp spot and camp Friday night. We will continue on the NMBDR Saturday and the next few days to complete the northern portion of the NMBDR for those that are interested. Doing some or all of the northern portion of the NMBDR is optional. Some club members may just want to join us for breakfast in the morning on Saturday and/or do some trails around rock bowl beach on Saturday. This is a family friendly event - friendly dogs, pets and kids are all welcome!

You are welcome to bring your own breakfast. Any donations you wish to make will go into the club coffers to be used for our xmas party or donations to off road organizations. Thank you all for donating.

We are returning from Yellowstone/Utah trip around then, BUT, I hope to be there for some of the NMBDR stuff and the Friday night camp out/ Sat morning breakfast!!
Would plan on following your NMBDR group up into the Jemez at least, after the breakfast. Thanks for setting this up, Larry.

I plan on following Larry to the breakfast site.

Unfortunately gonna miss this one and the BDR, it coincides with Corrales Harvest Festival and I'm working one of the tractor rides Saturday and Sunday.

Ding dang I wish I could make this! Already committed to annual desert shenanigans with the lads. Have a blast!

I will go to the RBB site on Fri afternoon and set up. Cut some firewood and move cow pies around. LOL!! Do some hiking around the area, too.
Will help with Sat morning breakfast.
I can lead a day ride, on Sat, if there is interest. Bringing snacks for Friday night camp fire. Have to get back home Sat late afternoon. Anybody else, showing up?

I'll be there tonight.

GUACAMOLE, SALSA AND CHIPS AND A NICE CAMP FIRE . GOOD FRIENDS. BYOB. FRIDAY EVENING AT ROCK BOWL BEACH. BREAKFAST SAT MORNING.
GET OUT OF TOWN!

Good time was had at the breakfast and the weather cooperated nicely. Thanks Larry for the breakfast and coffee cowboy style. I got there around 8pm Fri night to a blazing fire. It doesn't get any better than that.

Sat morning after parting ways with the NMBDR folks I tooled around the area seeing what's there and recorded some track logs for future returns. It's open ranch lands with stock ponds. Lots of places to camp out there.
