Hello -

My speedometer cable has busted off right at the sleeve... I am in no hurry to fix it because I use GPS to monitor speed since the accuracy of the speedometer was off due to running larger than stock tires. The question is, will I do damage to something else if I leave the the hole open where the cable used to be? If/when I get around to doing the cable... how hard is it? It looks pretty easy with the exception of behind the control panel cluster.

Also, I want to mount some additional lights to my front yakima bar and was wondering what setup is best for a non-modified/stock fj62 (no dual batteries, no alternator upgrade, etc)? Would I be better off running dual batteries or upgrading to a MeanGreen alternator, etc then get additional lights later?

I did some searching and found a lot of topics regarding types/brands of lights for certain situations but not much regarding the number/type of lights a stock setup with accomodate.

Any feedback is always appreciated...

I think your fuel injection needs a speed signal to run properly. Heck even a carbed FJ60 needs the speed signal for the ABV.

Your speed sensor is going to get hosed if you don't get it fixed. And the little speedo gear inside will get tore up.

You can run aux. lights without doing a battery or alternator modification. How long you use them, how many, type of bulb, will all determine how long it will be healthy for your charging system.

Thanks for the responses... Sounds like I need to get the speedo cable replaced quickly. I have driven it a couple of times since the cable broke and there is no noticeable impact to power/performance.

I checked SOR for a replacement cable and they don't have any for FJ62s... cruiserdan the best option?

Unless you feel like driving over to Cool cruisers and picking one up. BTW the # of lights and style are all a personal choice. I have a set of beam and a set of driving. Also a set of cornering for the back.

CCOT does have it and it is pretty cheap... thanks, I totally forgot about them and they are not far from the homestead.

I've been running old school KC Daylighters w/o any alt/batt upgrade. No problems over the past 6+ years.

Does anyone have some more information about the speed sensor? Mainly, does my stock FJ62/3FE have one? I have searched the forum, the web and traced my existing speedometer cable through the vehcle and don't see where the cable plugs into or interacts with a speed sensor... unless it is part of the speedometer cluster behind the dash since I didn't go that far yet.
