Just Had local Toyota dealership replace my steering rack. Drove her home before noticing oil pressure gauge was pegged. This has never happened before. Seems like a really big coincidence that the gauge would fail right after having the rack replaced? Definitely possible but id like some experienced opinions before i burn the dealership bridge. I've been very happy with their service at this point.

Take a quick look at the oil level as a precaution and then inspect the switch and wiring.
Locate the oil filter and check the plug connected to the housing and its wiring. It goes all the way up to the valve cover (DS).
If is bad you can replace it in 20 minutes with basic hand tools.

Thank you Diego355.

Oil level is good. First hing i checked.
Dealership has quoted me $524 for a used combination meter.
If they're not willing to discuss the possibility i will get her home and inspect. Thank you for items to look into.

Shes at the dealership now. i took it right back because this is the first time ive experienced this issue. the question i have is- could this be related to the dealership replacing the steering rack? if there's no way they're related i will just pay them their cash. If its likely they bumped something during the repair then im going to push back.

The above answers are a good place to start due to the recent service. If that doesn't work out, I would check for a windshield leak or wet carpet after a rain/carwash. When mine was leaking the first thing I noticed was my oil pressure gauge going haywire then going off completely. Eventually all the gauges started acting up before I found and fixed the source of the leak (missing rivets on windshield moulding). Good luck!

It is likely Mitch's comment. Trace the pressure sender wires. It could be damaged on install, shorted, etc.

I too think Mitch is right. The oil pressure sending unit is towards the center of the truck from the oil filter with the wire running back towards the firewall, close to the rack. It sounds like they pinched and grounded that wire. Grounding the oil pressure wire, should result in a pegged oil pressure gauge(if the gauge is working). My understanding is prolonged ground/pegged gauge may result in damage to the gauge.

I thought I had better pictures, but these may help you with identifying where the wire is, where it winds up:

Edit: 4.7 Sequioa oil pressure sender:

You guys are the best, That's exactly what i was looking for. thank you! I will keep you posted.

Looking for an unrelated post and i noticed i never updated this! Id like to thank everyone on the post for your help. I believe it was Mitch that diagnosed exactly what happened and lucky for me when i went back into the dealership and i explained it to them they did cover the oil gauge as well as the instrument cluster. They werent happy about it, but they did it. I never would have convinced them with out your help! THANK YOU!
