Does anyone have experience or estimate of how much it should cost to replace an evaporator coil? I have a 13 year old unit, it's not cooling great and has been freezing up. I felt around on the coil tubes and it feels oily, so I'm guessing it has a leak, all things considered. It also needs anew primary pan. Is replacing the whole unit a consideration, or just fix what's broken? I'd rather not replace it, I plan to move in a couple years, but also realize 15 years is a long time on a builder grade unit.
It's kind of a crappy looking horizontal unit in the attic, for a 2000 sq ft home, 10' ceilings. All electric.
UPDATE: It's going to cost around $1000 for new evaporator coil, pan, drier, and supplies. About $3500 for a whole new system.
