They are $6.33 each on Amazon. My Toyota guy just quoted me $225. Even that is really bonkers!

I am also curious to know if this is a very involved job. I was also quoted 600+ to change the plugs. I decided not to do it. This was not a dealer but an independent shop. When asked why so costly - I was told that this was a "special" vehicle and changing plugs on this is an expensive job. That did not obviously answer my question.

I never changed the plugs and the vehicle is running fine.

It seriously took me all over 1 hour doing it for my first time....nt first time in general, but first time on the LC. It's extremely easy. There's a good write up I believe in the FAQ or on tlc faq.com

As norcal said, an hour for the first time. Four 10mm bolts holding the air box on passenger side, two 10mm holding a bracket on driver's side and 10mm holding the coil packs in. All plugs are easy to get to now. Use fuel line that can grip the insulator to remove plugs once they're backed all the way out and then again when reinstalling(my grippy plug socket doesn't fit in the tube). Even the torque wrench fits without issue, 13lbs.

~$200 is pretty common/normal, but it is a pretty easy job to do. Whats difficult is changing spark plugs on Avalon, with 3 of them buried in the engine facing the firewall.

Ratchet and sockets: $20
New plugs: ~$80
Learning how to change your own plugs and saving money from shop costs: Priceless

Run Forrest run!!!! Tell him to look for an independent shop near him. That's a really simple job to do so it doesn't even need to be a shop that specializes in Toyota or Lexus.

He has an independent shop that he goes to. He started at the independent shop with "hesitation and clunk from drive train when under heavy load" issue. The independent shop mechanic said he couldn't access the transmission fluid. My friend then went to Toyota dealer, Toyota dealer told him to go to Lexus dealer. My friend was able to reproduce the problem with the Lexus technician. The Lexus technician told him the transmission fluid is lifetime, never needs changing and it is fine. However, they can change the spark plugs for $589 and that might fix the problem.

Thats almost comical :bang: I can't believe how some people become certified mechanics.
