Hello guys .. anyone using one of these .. ?

I have a lawnmower to do the big stuff in my small yard .. and was doing corners and tight stops with one gasser trimmer .. but that thing it's noisy, kinda heavy compared to this battery powered and sometimes temperamental to start .. so I was looking to swap into cordless ..

It looks like the Black and Decker 36V it's the best around .?

I like the concept on this one ..

comments are appreciated ..

no personal experience but my impression is that they have little power and little range

range won't be a problem in my case ... I only have about 7K square foot and this would be just for borders against fence and tight corners ..

cordless = gutless IMHO. Bought a gas powered Honda string trimmer years ago and have never looked back.

I have a poulan gass powered .. well let's extend those comments to gass powered ones .. any real good lees messy and less noisy .. ?

When the battery goes south, the replacement is usually as much as buying a new trimmer. An inexpensive corded might be the way to go if that is the only use that is needed.:meh:

IMO, there are 2 brands of yard power equipment: Stihl, and everything else.

I have an FS90 trimmer and that thing rocks. The engine is a 2-stroke but it runs like a 4-stroke so it's really quiet and easy to start.

I have a B&D cordless that hangs on the wall cause it wont hold a charge.

An old weedeater (cheap- that suprisingly still works)... a Honda 4 stroke that needed a carb rebuild recently but runs well starts well and is reasonably quiet.

A Stihl KM130 ... which is an excellent option to look at because of the blower/trimmer/hedge clipper accessory heads ... although you may want one of the smaller power heads

and a Stihl 450 that is good for christmas tree farming and keeping the sumacs in check around my creek.

If I could find a deal on a good FS90 .. I'd buy it too!

I certainly recommend the Stihl Kombi units.... often run mine all weekend with the attachments. Trimming, blowing the clippings and stones, blowing grass off the tractors and dust out of the engines, and trimming bushes and trees (willows) with the hedge clipper. ... AND occasionally pruning with the saw! ... GREAT piece of kit!!! NO REGRETS on this one!

EDIT TO ADD: The Honda 4 stroke is the quietest .... but I wear earplugs with them all anyway. None of them are "neighbour friendly" at 7:30 Sunday morning!

part of my issue ..

did you think your honda will be more or less loud compared to a conventional new lawmower .?

The Honda 4 stroke trimmer is a lot quieter than my Lawnboy 2 stroke (only pushmower you can be confident about on steep sloping banks fwiw) ... but I also have a Honda 4 cycle push mower (the cheapie OHC variety) and I have the "impression" that the Honda timmer is a little quieter. Unfortunately the Honda lawnmower is at the house and the Honda weedwacker is at the farm so very hard to be certain.

ALSO some factors that make it tougher to provide an objective comparison is that the powerplant (and muffler) is operated closer to your ears with a weedwacker than the lawnmower; the mower is bigger displacement (!) and has a larger "muffler" ....but my best guess is that the Honda wacker is the quieter unit. Which DOESNT make it less offensive sound wise cause the incessant revving that I subject the wacker to is probably more obnoxious to someone having a quiet morning coffee than the steady drone of a lawnmower ...

so much for my being helpful!?!

These is the mower I currently own .. I try to use close to noon and never after 5 ..

looks like cordless are out of discussion so now it's about gas trimmer I've been reading about FS90 and looks like the Cruiser of trimmers . . but kinda big / over rated for my needs ..

bought my FS110 used. Pretty sure I can sell it for what I paid a few years from now.
In the mean time, it's powerful and not very loud.
Admittedly overkill for a few flower bed borders but it's great to be able to swing heavy line at hard stuff without the engine bogging down.
Had I not found a good deal on this particular one, I might have leaned towards a Kombi for the (expensive) versatility.

Would the Stihl electric with a cord work for you?? May have more "power" and be just as quiet .... also last longer than the battery style ...

I know it wouldnt work for me not just because of the distances involved but also because I am not conscientious enough and routinely find myself cutting my own extension cords despite my resolve to "BE CAREFUL"

I would sooo do this... :crybaby:

that would be doable in terms of distance .. I have a long cord that will cover my yard .. but concerned about the same ..

Someone have experiences with smaller gas models .?

Hey Dan show up here dude ...

since when are your latin friends down south concerned about lawns and such? I thought you guys live the good life watching the palms grow from a hamaca...? :)

I do not have an hamaca in my back yard ( back terrace ) but will since moms seems to like it .. ( me not so much )

Maybe not all latin are born / educated the same ?

Live can be kinda different down here .. most ( if not all ) of my neighbors will never do they lawn .. they will never change car oil at home .. or repair a leak in their roof .. they will pay for .. and sure they will not care ( not the guy doing the lawn ) about noise early in the morning or late in the afternoon ..

But I do my lawn, change my oil, fix my roof leaks and much more .. also care about noise when doing my lawn ..

living in a wrong country .. ? maybe .. :D
