Cooper Tire Tread Life?

The day has finally come...I am getting 33s...

I am pretty much set on 275-70-18 as the size. Now I am debating between the Cooper Discoverer STT or the Zeon LTZ.

The Zeon seems to be highly underrated but I'd like some first hand comments for both tires. What kind of treadlife can I expect. Will the Zeon perform acceptably at Cruise Moab (obviously not as well as the Discoverer STT but maybe similar to Terra Grappler)? How is the Discoverer STT for daily highway driving?

I like cooper. I've run swamper TSL radials, GY MT, MTR and ATS, general ATs and MTs, BFG AT and MTs, toyo, yoko Geolander AT, firestone Destination MTs, etc . The Coopers hold their own with any of these brands. Presently, I run 285/75.16 dakota ATs (pep boys version) on the TLC. I had a similar set a few years ago. They wear good and have a decent sidewall. Given my experience, I prefer the BFG, Cooper and Toyos for an AT design. For MTs, I really liked the Destination MTs and BFG MTs.
 
Well, I don't have a direct comparison between tires on an LC/LX, but I have a comparison between Cooper vs. BFGs on a Ranger v. Tacoma. Most things being equal, similar driving styles and off-road use, my Taco w/ AT/KOs outlasted the Cooper AT by almost 16k. Also, my buddy's ride was much noisier on the highway. Maybe the rubber is different with the larger sizes and grades, but Coopers seem to wear faster. Maybe that is the reason for the Coopers being a few dollars less across their line. My .02. Skol.
 
hmm id think twice about coopers
maybe oz has a bad batch or something but i wouldnt like this new cooper on new rims on new car at normal pressure not overload vehicle to blow out at 110kmph

That's some bad luck with the blowout but I don't think it means Cooper is bad. From all I have read here, THe Discoverer STT has a great reputation.

As far as tire manufacturers go: BFG Tires is owned by Michelin.

BFG is owned by Michelin, thus the reason they got the contract for Humvee tires for the US Armed Forces.

Im really confused about why so many people in AU seem to dislike BFG. Alot of people in the US have nothing but good things to say about BFG, especially their newer tires, however it seems like Australia must get the shaft, cause I never here anything good about BFG from Australia. Do have any idea why?

Back on Topic-

mtnracer-a friend on mine has STTs on his FJ, the tread life is pretty good, and last i rode in his FJ, they were pretty quite.

MEMCruiser- I've hear that tread compound on STTs is a kinda hard for the rocks. KM2s might be a better choice

I think the tread of the STT leaves it right in between the BFG AT and BFG KM2. Its better off road than the AT, but not as good as the KM2. It really comes down what your primary usage of the tire will be.
 
Mate im a huge fan of bfgs at's most my mates that bought there tyres a while a go are still running there bfg at's but over the past few years the bfg price has smashed through the roof been way high over the other two main tyre brands them being coopers and mickey t's
im pricing up new tyres atm i want 315s this time but we cant get a bfg 315s at's, so i decided im going to go a mud tyre so ima go with the mickey t two mates that run them found them to be a good tyre , the mickey t and cooper were around $410 a tyre and the bfg muddy i got a few prices and some were $490 and one place said $540 a tyre so there gos me getting the trusty bfgs
 
Those prices are insane unless there's a huge AUS exchange rate deficiency.
 
yep im not sure why such a price hike as much as id prefer bfgs i cant afford them and i think that go's for a lot of people in oz the price is well above the rest so they dont seem to sell as much abviously
 
The exchange rate right now is $1 Australian = $0.92 US. That is some crazy pricing.
 
I don't have a lot to add but will give my .02 cents. I bought my Lc with the stock 275/70 R16 michelin ltx ms tires on it. I then bought tundra wheels and a set of 285/60 18 Zeon LTZ tires. This is my first set of AT tires. They are louder than the Michelin tires and the ride is a little rougher because of the bigger footprint. Doesn't bother me though.

I have about 3000 miles on the Zeons so I can't attest to the wear but i really like them. They have an aggressive look. Also have not had them offroad yet.
 
I have almost 50,000 miles on my Cooper ST's with plenty of tread left. They started life on my 80 and are now on my 100.
 
I've heard good things about the Dura Tracs, though Good Years have had problems with weak sidewalls.
 
I have just over 7k on my Cooper Zeon LTZ in 275/70R18 which just replaced the Cooper Discoverer S/T's of the same size that were there for about 65k. So far so good. Highway, fire roads and beach though as the LC is primarily a fishmobile. Definitely more road biased than the S/T. The S/T-C was my goto tire on the Rovers. Indestructible. I like the Zeons but don't expect them to make it to 50k. fwiw...
 
those dura tracs are nice!

02 Beast (shown below) is running them in 285 i believe. Not a good close up but you get the overall point. I'm sure they could (aired down) out climb the BFG AT's

I have Definity/Cooper 285/75/16 MT's on my 100 and i've been very happy with them...

I'm also a fan of mickey thompson's. However I wished they'd bring back their baja belted line, the newer tires have less appealing tread patterns. I think I might go with BFG's after my mickey thompsons are worn out
 
How much $$ do you guys pay average for mickey t's, bfgs or coopers in the 285 75 16 or 315 75 16
