Engine temp spiked on the 3.4l V6 97 4runner on the way home and after parking for a few minutes i see a leak on the ground passenger side rear. I have the skid plates on, so the leak could be coming from elsewhere.
Earlier this year i replaced the top section of the heater hoses going in to the firewall and bypassed the solid rear heater core lines for the back seat. I'm not sure if there are other lines in that area to check. I don't have a coolant line diagram for this year and engine.
Is there another likely culprit at the rear of the engine? I need to fix this tonight or early tomorrow morning. Any educated suggestions are helpful.

on an unrelated yet comical note, I've figured out why my 86 4runner hasn't been running correctly. The alarm system that i've never used on the truck decided to turn itself on, and i don't have the disarm fob. I found a couple boxes under the dash, one a viper box and one marked Avital zone 1. I saw blinking red lights that were not on and found them.

Ed, maybe some famous Electroman help removing this security system so I at least have a running backup truck?

Might swap on some safe tires and bolt on my humvee seatbelts on the 40 and drive that instead.

how can we balance time between women and trucks?..i've been neglecting my trucks...

Watched a 10min tutorial on youtube and learned how to the security systems work and how they're installed and removed.
Woo hoo, all taken out, starter bypass relay removed and reconnected regular. Old red runner now starts and runs, but I now recall never fixing that exhaust leak at the downpipe/cat junction. Not sure if I fixed the overheating on this one neither, but I remember something about a 2 stage thermostat

Well, found the leak at the damn heater bypass hose. Reclamped and burping now while charging the cruiser.

Hopefully that is the only leak. I've read threads on the two freeze blocks rear of the engine where the transmission mates rusting through

I think the 2 stage thermostat went to the 22RE in a Celica.

I think so too. Pretty sure I bought one from lce performance and put it in there, but I'll pop the thermostat housing open to make sure.

I'm starting to think that the 86 runner has been overheating since I swapped in the new radiator A year and a half ago or so.
Prob time I flushed that coolant system too.
