I do think it is on the way out. my hunch (hope) is that they will keep the LX for those that want to drop mad wongo on an oversized luxury SUV and re-introduce the LC in a few years in a more rugged, affordable format that would compete with new bronco, jeep, etc...

i just cant see how toyota can justify continuing production/import of the 200 when they are moving only 2-3 thousand units/year.

That's just for the US market. It's a global platform. They sell 2-3K per month in Oz and in the GCC.

i hear ya. i do have a sincere, non-argumentative question: is it the same vehicle overseas? meaning: are they selling that many similarly equipped/priced 200s or are they selling a bunch of stripped down 200s and 70 series diesels and stuff?

Maybe they are okay leaving the US out of the LC market, as we certainly make it tough/expensive (particularly with EPA/safety stuff) and there are plenty of vehicles you can get elsewhere that cant get here.

There are many different iterations of the 200 series abroad...

GRJ200: 4.0 gasser (same engine as a Tacoma/4Runner/FJC from a few years back), 5 speed manual from an 80 series, 80 series transfer case. Stripper model.
VDJ200: 4.5 Twin Turbo Diesel, platform-specific 5 speed manual or 6 speed auto, platform specific transfer case. These come in stripper model too.
UZJ200: 4.7 gasser. Manual and automatic.
URJ200: 5.7 gasser, manual and automatic.
URJ201: 4.6 gasser, manual and automatic
URJ201: 5.7 gasser, manual and automatic.

The list of possible combos of the 200 series globally is in the hundreds.

Still doesn't make sense to me to leave their legacy vehicle out of one of the largest auto markets in the world. Let's see, we sold a BUNCH of UZJ100s, then we switched to the URJ200, and now we're not selling many at all. Hmmmmmmm.

Seems to me, the idea I've heard about them offering the allegedly-upcoming 300 series Land Cruiser as a more basic model, while still offering the LX available for the more luxury-inclined, would be a profitable model. But what do I know? I'm still one of the people who sees the Jeep killing it and the new Bronco "sold out," yet wonders why Toyota doesn't try to knock both of them out with a "true" successor to the FJ40.........
