I converted my LX to PT with a cruiseroutfitter kit a few years ago.

I may be handing down my LX to a new driver and I think I'd rather him have the FT 4wd in place. The steps are basically the reverse of converting of course, but is there anything to think about when putting the spider gears (?) back in place of the spool? I guess they resemble tiny differential gears so it has me wondering if there are any contact patterns etc to look at? Hopefully it's just a matter of popping them back in..

Thanks!

No alignment needed, or possible with those gears. Alignment is only needed for helical gear sets which the transfer case does not have in its differential.

Out of curiosity, what's the benefits to being able to run rear-wheel drive only? MPG?
IMO, there are none.

Mileage doesn't change. Some will make the argument that it reduces stress on the forward driveline parts but... Eh. It's a system designed to run together; I can't imagine there's really any meaningful amount of wear saved, especially when you consider losing the benefits of all-time AWD. IMO, the 100 drives and handles better in AWD than RWD, and I've spent much time running just RWD. The 100 doesn't make enough power or have enough speed to make it a performance improvement, either. It's not like making a GTR RWD for reduced driveline power loss and faster top end acceleration.

To me, the conversion is more 'something to do' than it is a solution to any issue.
