I can't for the life of me find anywhere on Maryland's Motor Vehicles site that says how this is achieved.

It's late and I can't call, but I've got my 1987 FJ60 here with no motor, and have found about 7 BJ60s in Canada...typical situation good drivetrain lots of rust.

So importing is fine, just cut the frame up or something, put the thing on a trailer, yadda-yadda.

Who do you talk to exactly about getting such a conversion finished and registered, passing emissions etc? Would it be advisable, or am I wasting my time because it's an '87? Diesel 60s never sold here so....

If you've got the whole truck and all the associated parts, such a swap isn't difficult is it? Worry about 12V/24V issues?

The usual thing, at least in British Columbia, on engine swaps is a newer engine in an older vehicle is OK but not an older engine in a newer vehicle. For you that means forget the BJ60's as they stopped in '85. You'll need to transplant an HJ60 which means yes you need to mess with 12v/24v issues (the BJ60's are all 12v).

Have to check with the state where they do smog checks. In CA, gifu did his homework and the smog referee just gave him the green light.

Good job, Soop.

Or just get a 12V alternator, starter and glow plugs for the 2H. They're as close as your Toyota Industrial dealer or SOR can get them from Oz. Your Toyota dealer should be able to get a new 80A 12V alternator for the 2H for about $425. The 12V starter electric motor is shared with the 12V 3B and the 2L/2LT and parts are available from Toyota or Denso.

try and get the 1hz diesel. all the stuff wouldn't be too hard to get. try that G and S. there are posts on here for their link. that way you at least are putting in a newer engine than your truck. and plus the 2h vehicles are still not cheap in canada. bj's are cheaper. but 2h powered are still getting top dollar. unless totally rusted out.
