Hey guys, like many of you I installed the gas spring mod on my GX. It is way better than factory! My only beef was if you let go, the door can pick up speed and come to a violent stop! I was reading in the other thread about the rear tire carriers and stressing the door skin and got to thinking and trying to find a solution for this one...
Well, here is what I did:
I added a length of spear gun rubber to resist the opening of the gas spring.
Added a length of 550 cord to limit the extension of the gas spring. I also wrapped this around the gas spring twice to add a little bit of give to the stopping action.
Added wire mesh cable organizer to keep it tidy and to keep the components from sagging into the door jamb when closing.
So far so good.
It would be nice to make it a bit neater looking. Maybe down the road if it holds up well!
