Ok so ive been going to different shops doing some homework and trying to figure out what combo i want to run on my FJ, i know i want to do the 3in lift for now (eventually i want to do the SAS swap) but i want to run 35s on the OME lift. Ive seen plenty of pics on this site with people that have done it so i know its possible, but every time i mention this combo to the shops they tell me it cant be done, they say the only one that has been done it was the Walker Evans FJ and they removed all the Fenders. So my question is how much cutting is actually required to fit 35s and still be able to have enough clearance to not rub when hitting the trails?

I'm running 35" KM2's, on 3" of lift.
You will need the most aggresive body mount chop you can do, as well as possibly the lower wheelwell corner.
I had to trim some plasic as well.
Once you get your tires, it's easy to see where the issues are(shiny steel where paint once was, shredded plastic).

I gotta say, the FJCs look much better sitting on bigger rubber, too bad Toyota didn't take that into consideration at the design stage.

I had Costco mount the tires on loose rims, then swapped out in my driveway. Good luck on the build-Bill

If with 3" of lift you can fit 35" tires .. how much can you fit with 6" lift ( thought are a few options around there )

6" lift really doesn't buy you much in the bigger tire size, my 325 50 22's still rub alittle on the drivers side and I've cut the body mounts twice. The wheel wells are small and when you flex up into them they rub.

Without moving the front spindles forward (solid axle swap) 35" are probably the biggest you can fit.

lemony, I'm glad you said somethind about the drivers side, mine hits it too. i was starting to think my front end was asymetrical. guess the body is, not the IFS.

thanks .. for comments guys ... Just wonder the bigger lift don't make a real tire - clearance diference.

Finally... The OME suspension is 2.5" or 3.0"?

i thought it was a 2.5

But the people use 35" with OME 2"?

Consider rim width too

Keep in mind that tire/rim width and backspacing are both functions of rubbing too. If you run a 9" or 10" rim or have more or less back spacing than stock there are different points that will rub.

For instance, I run 315/70/17 on stock steelies with MT MTZ's which have a thinner section width than most 35's. I have a 2.5" lift, body mount trimmed, and 1/4" spacer in the front. The only place I rub is the UCA in the front on full lock and the inner fender well in the rear at full flex.

Optimal configuration for least amount of rubbing would be 3.5 to 4" of BS with a 8" rim.

I went with the Toytec and it's 3". The use their 1/2" spacer with the front OME springs and their own custom rear spring. I run 33"s but have fit a 35" under there to check. Maybe you might want to check out a 1 inch or more wheel spacer to get rid of the body mount rub.

depends...

Finally... The OME suspension is 2.5" or 3.0"?

The OME HD lift sits a little higher than the Light Duty one. I got a full 3" out of my HD set up.

so we just put ome heavy's all the way around on my fathers fjc. all he does is drive it one the freeway. no offroading will be done with this. will 35 fit and not rub when full lock to lock with the stock 16'' off road wheels?

from what i understand they will fit, but there will have to be some serious cutting to make it work.

At a bare minimum, you'll need an agressive front body mount chop - easy to do, but fit the tires before doing the chop to get it right.

2 Questions tho - if all he does is freeway why OME heavy? and why 35" tires? I wheel and carry loads and swapped out my heavy rears for med because the heavies were just too stiff - they'd launch you of a speed bump. Also, the 35's will not help mileage or on road performance, including braking.

Why did you buy what you bought for yours? Probably because you wanted to. If he cared about fuel mileage we wouldnt have installed the trd supercharger. Thanks for the info about the 35 inch tires, but there is not a whole lot of braking going on on the freeway, plus if you have to slam on your brakes your probably following to close.

285 dont need a lift...295 need a slight lift in full turns or offroad....305+ will need the lift all the time. Rubbing is not so much tire diameter as it is width of tire when it is turned and the corner of tire hits the protruding bubble in fenderwell and rubs lightly.

I just put 295s on my FJ with no lift and only got a very slight rubbing in full turns or in turns on rough terrain...

Just ordered the ToyTec 3" lift with OME med front springs, OME med rear springs, and all hardware. Decided to use OE shocks even though it may limit full travel potential on rear...but when I put a new bumper on next year I can change out the shocks.

Will advise after install how they are with full 33" tires and whether the frame mod is really required.

I have selected all the mods to my truck for practicality and performance - so yes, that was what I wanted - but I evaluated the options and type of use to optimize performance and reliability, as well as economy and vehicle safety in making my selections. I was offering the benefit of my 35K miles behind the wheel of an FJ - both on road and off.:meh:
