Hey. I left my cruiser too long without driving. Tried to jump start, but after a few seconds the cables became very hot and the horn blasted. 100% sure I didn't incorrectly connect the cables. I immediately disconnected the jumper cables and went to Costco for a new battery. New battery confirmed charged, but there nothing. No lights or anything. I checked the 2 large fuses on the battery cable and they appear to be okay. I'll get my multimeter tomorrow to ensure they are okay. Any ideas for the next few things to check?

Stupid question but did you take the cap off of the negative terminal? Know of more than one person that forgot and it blended with the battery so well it wasn't noticable.

Well, did you pay your electric bill this month?

Thanks. I often underestimate my stupidity, but unfortunately, it wasn't the case. On the plus side, Costco replaced my battery for only $12. The old one was only maybe 16 months old.

Pay your electric bill and do the hokey pokey:

I must be slow - I don't get the joke. Anyway, NOTHING works. Zero power. No lights anything else electrical works. New battery confirmed good. I'm going out now to test all the fuses. I don't know how to remove or test the large amperage fuses (under the blue retainers in the fuse box).

Downloading the FSM now, very slowly. I'll leave torrent open to seed for the next week or so if anyone else needs it.

Not sure I got the electric bill joke either, the hokey pokey was my self deprecatory joke because of what I ran in to after changing my battery. But it sounds like your case is different.

Do you have a voltmeter for troubleshooting?

You essentially connected a battery backwards, which most likely blew a fuse or two somewhere, if not worse. I would get a digital voltmeter and start tracing from the battery to see what's getting power and what isn't. That should help you narrow down the problem.

I am pretty sure it is the main fuse bar (fusible links). Replacing it is proving to be a pain, apparently requires taking the fuse box, which is not going well. Any guidance there will be appreciated.

Well, I got the replacement fusible link assembly and was able to split the top and bottom of the relay box, but still need to remove the section with the fusible links and can't. Has anyone done this? I was hoping the link assembly (the black bar) would just come out, but no, and I can't find a way to push it down to unbolt the end tabs.

Any update or pics on how you solved this?

a lot of the Toyota fusible link bars have a couple screws into the tabs on the bottom of the blocks. you have to dig into middle earth and disassemble the origami'd fuse box assembly to get to the bolts then the block lift out. There is a bunch of cussing involved so plan go do this away from the women and children.
