I've been on the Gx550 list for about 8 months now, and just had a chance to drive a GX550 (Premium, with a Luxury+ available for looks and starts and sits but not drives). Having driven my '22 LX600 for two years and 30,000 miles, I think I'm in a good position to compare. Multiple people on YouTube and various blogs have super detailed reviews, and so this is an overall impression.

In short, while the refinement of the LX600 is considerably higher than the GX550, with more supple suspension, softer inside materials, quieter ride, more muted engine notes, the GX is a good deal "lighter." It's much lighter to steer, quicker to turn, doors are easier to open and close, buttons are all quicker to depress and respond. The LX600 has a good deal of "weight," or "inertia," and that characterizes the steering, the acceleration, and heft of the doors, etc.

Masculine vs. feminine is probably not a very popular way to characterize them, but that's what comes to mind. While I've been working on selling my GX460, my wife has been driving my LX, and after test driving a 2019 Landcruiser, she was able to tease out this idea of "heft," or "inertia." The LX600 has it, though it's a good deal easier to drive about than the Lc200. That said, she doesn't care for the Lx. Feels too heavy to whisk around town with our three kids.

I'll be keeping my LX600, and my wife will be getting a GX550 as soon as ours rolls in. I like the weight, the solidity, the presence of the LX600. But I also think Lexus did an awesome job with the new GX, and they are going to sell a bunch of them. What a great set of vehicles!

Glad to hear this and thanks for the impressions. I’m really curious how they compare underneath and beneath the skin. Is the QDR really that extra bit that makes the LX/LC so much better or is it watered down and really just a superficial variation of the TNGA-F?

That ultimately will take 20 years. I'm communicating with slee and dissent to start outfitting my LX, though I suspect the Gx will be easier to modify since it already has a bunch of aftermarket support.

This is a win win. There isn't a bad choice. Pick the one you like better!

Great write up! I've never driven a GX but my 600 is so much more nimble/quicker feeling than my 570 that it's crazy the new GX feels that way compared to the 600.

How did the interior size feel compared to the 600?

About the same, just a little taller. The space feels almost like a Jeep Rubicon, very upright windshield, buttons and knobs all very intuitive and within easy reach.

Really loved it. If I didn't already have the Lx, probably would be getting a his and hers GX550 Overtrail and a GX550 Luxury+.

Probably not as flat as the G-wagen, classic Defender nor Jeep Wranglers. But yeah, I agree, more likely to crack than the LX600.

Furthermore, a lot of newer tech vehicles with heads-up display, rain sensing wipers, etc require more expensive windshields.

Makes me feel better about trading my 200 for his and hers 550s.
Well, we ended up with an LX600 and a GX550. Wife really liked the more luxurious interior of the LX. I’m happy because I get to keep a true LC in the driveway after trading the 200.

Good for you guys. Got a good deal on a 2023 GX that already has an icon suspension. Got a little spooked with the LX600/tundra engine recall, decided to pass on the new Gx550 for a couple years.

And I've already broken my LX600 windshield driving around ongoing road construction in San Antonio.

That’s a beautiful 460!

Cancelled my GX550 Lux+ order for the LX600 after wife driving both. It’s her truck. She preferred the feel, driving dynamics and more upscale feel of the LX, I like the mods ability of the GX and think the over lander package is the best all around GX550 package. We felt the on road characteristics and fit finish were better on the LX. Yes it should be due to the price difference and possibly a different target markets Both are great trucks and you really can’t wrong with either one of them.

Bro, Is your transmission any progress?

I've had improved transmission shifting as the vehicle gets used to me and I to it.

It tries to start in 2nd gear on rolling stops then thunks into 1st when I press the gas for more acceleration. I've started to either stop completely at stop signs or just keep the roll a little faster and that particular moment doesn't happen.

Hate to jinx myself, but the windshield on my '97 Defender is original. Two on my old GX460, about to install the third on my 200, three on the 100...
