I know Onur posted something similar awhile back but I thought I'd check this forum again.

I'm looking for something small(ish) with a 4 cyl, preferably auto, preferably 2 door and it has to accept a roof rack. I'd like to stay at $3K or less.

Greg--

I found mine on craigslist (amazing the things you can find here--I furnished my entire house from craigslist for a total of $75!).

Dealer's post here too, but I stuck with private sellers. I looked at about three cars before I settled on my Saab. I bought it for about $1000 with 185K on the ticker and put about $300 in maintenance and baselining (fluids, regular tune-up stuff, rear brake pads).

I've got 194K miles on it now and have had no worries or issues.

Be careful though, lots of scamming going on craigslist. Make sure you meet face to face with the prospective seller. With craigslist, you gotta be a good judge of character and I would indeed do your homework about the said vehicle before you go to purchase....just like buying a used cruiser, I guess.

Good luck.

Yeah, I put a "wanted" post on Craigslist. We'll see what happens.

Greg,

One of our mechanics is selling his honda civic two door that I belieive is in you price range. I can get more info if you are interested. If I don't get the chance to talk to him tomorrow, we are planning to take a couple of his quads up on Saturday, and I can get more info on his car then. Let me know.

Don't you have a smallish gold colored car? I'd be willing to trade you for my '04 Corolla and maybe cash...

Grinding down Rio Grande at 25 mph is cruel and unusual punishment for gold colored car. It's moving to the exalted position of weekend plaything.

Greg,

'97 Honda Civic 2 door/ hatchback, 4 cyl. 87K miles (closer to 88). Black. He said he gets between 30-35 mpg. It looks in good shape. When he mentioned it last week he said $3K. It sounds like he is firm with that price, because when I asked him this morning he said tell you 3200 because he knows someone will try to bring him down (of course cash usally speaks well, but I don't think he needs the money). If you are intersted you can talk to him. I have no home phone # for him and he doesn't have a cell phone ,but you can call him at our shop (877-8013). He works Mon-Fri. between 6:30 and 3:30, but after 8:30 would be better (we have about 30some trucks to get out every morning).
Ask for Mark.

Rudy
